My little story

As a newleywed, 6 months this month, I love to cook for my husband. I love to try new things, but he is a good ol boy raised in the south and would be happy to eat meatloaf, mashed taters (topped with A-1) and the occasional helping of green beans. Branching out on my cooking skills has been hard. Getting him to try new things is like getting a puppy housebroken. He is getting better. Usually I have to try to slip things past him at first, otherwise he will turn up his nose and have nothing to do with it. Take ground turkey. A woman cannot survive on beef taco's alone! I said, honey, I want to try more lean meats. You would have thought I was unplugging ESPN for the duration of our marriage. So I went to the store and purchased that nice package of lean ground turkey and threw it in his beloved tacos one night instead of ground beef. What do you know, he loved them, but would he love them when I told him it wasnt beef??? He Said Yes!!!! It was as if a new door had opened for me. I started to try all new things, turkey sausage on spaghetti, whole wheat pasta, fresher ingredients, more chicken, pork.....oh I love my red meat dont get me wrong, but a girl can only take so much. I have loved to cook since I was little. I remember a birthday party when I was around 10 that I had. We went to a cooking school. It is one of my fondest childhood memories. Food just brings so much to life. Being a southern girl, a lot of our memories are around food. Holidays....theres always tons of food, birthdays...yep food, weddings, funerals, football...you name it, food is always there.
