dear mmmmm....cookbook?

I remember being sixteen and receiving a "Dear Diary" notebook for my birthday. I knew as much then about writing as I do now (some arrggh 30 odd years later). This whole cooking thing began for me about two years ago, I discovered I loved to read cookbooks. Now, and take note, I did not cook but I sure enjoyed reading them. I just couldn't understand what everyone was getting so excited about. Paula this, Rachel that...and who the heck is this Emerald guy??? Oh, its Emeril..still confused. Why would you spend hours in the kitchen just to have a meal and one you have to clean up after too. NOPE there was no way that was for me. I made reservations. I was very good at it too. Just tell me what mood you were in and I had the perfect restaurant to go with it. Fast forward to six months ago...and a funny thing happened. I got bored!! Bored with endless hours waiting in lines, waiting for food and waiting for checks. The thought of going out to dinner began to seem like more chore than enjoyment. So I threw away all my old rusted pans, tossed out all the spices (that according to one manufacturer) expired in the mid-nineties, and decided to try my hand at this "cooking" thing. I acquired a stand mixer, some good knives, a garbage bowl, cookie sheets, pots, pans, mini-chopper, a spice rack and various other utensils I am still trying to figure out. I am determined to learn what it seems everyone else already knows, I have found the desire now come along with me as I figure all this out. huggs to all!
