I look back over my recipes (not just the ones posted here), and I am appalled. It is no wonder that I topped out at 330 lbs the beginning of this year. The vast majority of my recipes contain more butter, bacon, and cream than the combined menus of THREE French restaurants. Simply astounding. Early this year, I took a consensus of my general state of health and came to a conclusion - I need to be healthier. I was overweight, lethargic, and sedentary. I needed a change, something to pull me free of this stagnation.
I found it when my wife applied for - and received - a job with the State of Oregon. We had to move to Portland. It started slowly, getting things ready for the move, then suddenly came to a head when, on moving day, I found myself moving the contents of an 1100 sq ft house into a 24 ft trailer. By myself. My loyal, trusty friends backed out at the last moment. All of them. I am not complaining though, because it was a real eye opener. Not just to the shape I was in. I found that I have an amazing wellspring of energy stored somewhere in this flabby body. I just needed to access the willpower to get it in gear.
I have done that. Our new house is close to many parks, paths, and trails. I walk at least five miles every day with the twins. We go to various parks, recreation centers, museums, historical landmarks, and sightseeing locations all over the Portland area.
My diet has changed, too. I have all but cut the sweeteners, butter, and other fats and sugars completely from my diet. I eat more frequently, and control my portions.
That was a big thing for me. Not what I ate, but how much. My wife has said from the beginning "It's all about portion control." Just took five years for it to kick in. In that time, I went from 250 lbs to 330.
Now, I am back on track. Now, while still overweight, I am much more active, energetic, and healthy. Since May, I have lost, to date, 30 lbs. I have not put any of that back on, and don't plan to.
I tell you this so that you can understand why, from now on, I will be posting healthier recipes, and veering away from the overindulgent recipes of the past.
In all things, moderation.
Lotsa luv,
Kyle
