Cliff\'s Edge

Finally went to Cliff's Edge in Silver Lake. The food is fairly good, but the garden patio is why you go to Cliff's Edge. It is so ridiculous that this hidden gem exists right in the middle of hipster central-Sunset in Silver Lake. Amidst metal lunchboxes, Betty Page-style bangs, and bright red lipstick on pale skin; in between 4100 bar and the 99 cent store tucked off of Sunset, is this gorgeous, expansive garden patio with huge trees that serve as baluster-like columns. The inside of the restuarant has a Mediterranean-meets-Eastern-feel to it and is quite nice, but why would ANYONE choose to sit INSIDE?
Now I like...no LOVE food and will eat it if it's fabulous even if it's in a cockroach-infested hole-in-the-wall place. But this place is so gorgeous and so serene, that the better-than-mediocre, slightly overpriced food is completely worth it. You completely forget you're in the land of bad, selfish drivers who own SUVs, fake boobs, and restelyne infused faces (or is it for lips?).
The wines by the glass are fantastic. Hmmm...what did I start with? Oh, of course, the fried cheese dish...the goat cheese filled tempura dish. What can I say? Fried goat cheese. Umm...yes, it was good. Remember, you fry a finger and I would eat it. So goat cheese doesn't stand a chance...gone in a millisecond. And the tempura added a nice change-up to your regular standard fried pieces of fat. I wanted the veal osso bucco for the main entree, but it was a bit pricey (especially with all the wine and the fried goat cheese). So I went with the pork tenderloin. The pork was well-cooked: it was tender and juicy, but it was a bit bland. I appreciated the fact that it wasn't overcooked, but still, there was something to be desired. Nonetheless, the plate was licked clean, but that's just the way I roll. No dessert as we had all pretty much stuffed ourselves silly by the end of dinner.
Once again, the food is not my favorite and is a bit overpriced, but it's the fact that this place even exists right in the middle of Sunset Blvd. in the heart of Silver Lake that trips me out. This is a great place to go whether it's a few of you or a small group of friends. It is definitely worth it. It's places like this that make you love a tough place like Los Angeles.
Guess where I'm going to dinner tomorrow night? More to come...
