The kitchen was the most important room in the house in Grandma Cole's day. Her kids still talk about Grandma's fried pies, and grandkids remember the biscuits and chocolate gravy and the cookie jar that was always full.

In later years Grandma had to delegate the cooking to someone else, but she always made sure that whoever the 'resident chef' was, that person cooked the favorites of whoever happened to be visiting. There were certainly lean years in the memories of Grandma's nine kids, but they all agree they never went hungry.

Since the first edition of the Cole Family Cookbook was printed, the family has grown. Now there are great-great-grandkids with favorite recipes to share. Coles love to cook and they love to eat. Here's to more great recipes and the wonderful memories they create!

Yellow Squash and Cheese Soup
I created this recipe when the garden was producing so much yellow squash I was thinking about dropping it off on neighbor's doorsteps and then running. I was surprised to find several yellow squash soup recipes online, but none had the mix of ingredients I had in my pantry, or that sounded quite right. So I mixed and matched several recipes to come up with this one, which has become a favorite in my household and at potlucks. This recipe makes a lot - a big soup pot full, and is good leftover. Cookbook Recipe
Blueberry Cornbread Muffins
These blueberry cornbread muffins are great for breakfast! Submitted by: "Ryan Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Easy Alfredo Sauce
This is by far the easiest alfredo recipe I have found yet, plus you can add it to so many different things! Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Cold Grape Salad
A shared recipe from a co-worker. It is a cool summer salad/dessert. You are never sure which one it is! Many servings, great for a pot luck or large family gathering. Submitted by: "Jan Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Green Chili and Cheese Chicken
This is an easy recipe that I found on Pinterest and we all loved! I made it in the crock pot because I didn't want to have the oven on this summer, and it was great. Submitted by: "Laura Nunnallee"

Cookbook Recipe
Lemon Meringue Pie
This was a recipe I took from our Tulsa World a few years ago, but it has since been the only lemon pie recipe I use. I use the No-Fail Pie Crust recipe for other pie. (Note: recipe is for 2 single crusts or one double crust) Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
No Fail Pie Crust
This recipe was published in the Tulsa World a few years ago and its the only pie crust recipe I've used since then. You'll notice it makes two crusts and I've never tried cutting it in half to make just one. You can always have one crust in the freezer if you aren't making two pies, or it's a good recipe for a double crust pie. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Chocolate Cream Pie
Over the years I've tried different chocolate pie recipes, but usually have ended up altering them somewhat each time. This is what I've finally decided is my best choice. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Pear and Greens Salad
Winter salads are harder for me to come up with, but this one proves to be easy and ingredients readily available. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Ridiculously Easy Maple Ice Cream Topping
This is the ice cream topping my brothers and I made when we were kids. Couldn't be any easier. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Mississippi Mud Ice Cream Pie
This is the dessert I made for my dad for Father’s day. And I must admit…it was AMAZING. Everyone loved it, especially my dad. Mom, she’s not big on coffee, but it didn’t seem to slow her down. Ha! Submitted by: "Amy Newcomb"

Cookbook Recipe
Family Favorite Hot Fudge Cake
This dessert started with my mother who used to make it for us. I continued it with my kids and now my grandkids. This gets made just about any time we are together. It originated as an 8X8 pan size so the ingredients reflect our best efforts to make it work for a 9X13. Submitted by: "Kimberly Zondor"

Cookbook Recipe
Mixed Grilled Taters
Great Grilling Side Dish! Submitted by: "Jan Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Chipotle Grilled Corn on the Cob
We love corn on the cob and this is a delicious "twist" on an old favorite! Submitted by: "Jan Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Rustic Oat Bran Bread
This bread is so easy and quick! I'm not usually one for making homemade yeast breads, but this definitely is one that I like to make. It's great with soups, stews, chili or salads. I found it on Taste of Home.com. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Salted Caramel Nut Bars
This recipe is one I got from my aunt Laural. She says it's a lot like the caramel nut bars she has had from a bakery in Stillwater, OK. You cut them in small pieces, so one batch makes several food gifts and has been a hit with everyone I've shared them with. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Sweet Spiced Walnuts
I discovered this recipe while looking for a quick, easy food gift to give co-workers. It's from the 2000 version of the Better Homes & Gardens New Cookbook (Limited Edition). Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Devilishly Spicy Pecans
This is a recipe from my Aunt Laural. It's a favorite with her family, and was a hit at Christmas when I shared it with my family. It's super easy and makes a nice gift. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Chicken Fingers
I found this online, and thought it would be perfect when looking for something to feed great-grandkids. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes
This is a recipe I've tweaked from some I've read online. Mashed potatoes are always such a hassle to have ready at just the right time when you're doing dinner for a large group (like mine) so I'm glad to have come up with a recipe that takes all the stress off that last minute prep. Submitted by: "Esther Williams"

Cookbook Recipe
Paula's Peanut Butter Cake
I found this recipe while looking for something special to make for one of our Motorcycle Club Gatherings. I ran across this and made it for our crew... now it is one of my dishes that is requested all the time. Submitted by: "Paula Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Sopapilla Cheesecake
This is easy and AMAZING!! It will become a favorite!! Submitted by: "Paula Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Mrs. P's Banana Pudding
I grew up on this recipe which was handed down from my Grandmother. Cayla had never had homemade banana pudding until she came to live with us. I made this for her and she was instantly hooked. I taught her how to make it and told her to 'guard' my family secret which I am proud share with you. It is wonderful and brings back precious memories. I am honored that she can pass it along to her family one day. All my kids LOVE it and it is usually a holiday staple. How the directions are written is how I gave it to her... Submitted by: "Paula Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Illaree's Egg Rolls
These egg rolls are easy to make, freeze well, and are also very good and great to have on hand. Submitted by: "Ruth Ann Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Smoked Mushroom PIzza
When I was living in Austin we found a pizza joint that made a serious mushroom pizza. It became our go-to comfort meal on weekends (and weekdays). Unfortunately, it closed less than a year after opening and for the next year I found myself reminiscing about this pizza until I finally decided I needed to figure out how to make it. It is a wonderful combination of smokey, tangy, sweet, and savory. For the dough I like to use a recipe off of finecooking.com that I make the night before and leave in the refrigerator to ferment. It can be kept for days in the refrigerator or frozen for much longer. You can click here to find that recipe or use a favorite dough recipe of your own, but I prefer a thinner, chewier dough for this pizza. Submitted by: "Ben Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Lavone's Pumpkin Ice Cream Desert
This is one of Lavone's Recipes. As we all know, she loved to make sweets and they were always wonderful. Submitted by: "Ruth Ann Cole"

Cookbook Recipe
Wild Rice Casserole
This hearty casserole smells delicious while cooking and makes a great side dish or main meal. Submitted by: "Melanie Oliver"

Cookbook Recipe
Judy's Crock Pot Chili
I first had this Chili when I was having my Aunt Andree's estate sale. That was in the fall of 2009. The weather was very cool for that time of year. That morning my cousin Sue added Baileys Irish Cream to my coffee, and a lady named Thelma came with a large pot of her chili. That's how I remember that day. I still add a little Baileys to my coffee when it's cold outside and we still enjoy "Thelma's Chili". In the Cole cookbook we'll call it "Judy's Crock Pot Chili". But in my family it will always be "Thelma's Chili". Submitted by: "Judy Davis"

Cookbook Recipe
3 Ingredient Pumpkin Spice Cake
I was at a friends house for a fish fry and this was one of the desserts. It's fast, easy and most people ask for the recipe. Enjoy Submitted by: "Judy Davis"

Cookbook Recipe
Easy Oven Roasted Vegetables
My mom first served me oven roasted asparagus that Aunt Jackie taught her to make. They were delicious! I don't always have fresh asparagus, but almost always have onions and some other vegetables that will roast in an equal amount of time, such as green bell pepper and zucchini. Delicious with baked or grilled fish! Submitted by: Linda Ayers

Cookbook Recipe
Chicken With Coconut Rice
This is a favorite recipe in Bill's family. His mom made it for special occasions. Although she has passed away, when I made it recently for his sister's birthday, it reminded us all of other good times we had shared. It can be increased to serve a big crowd and is good leftover. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Spinach Enchiladas
A friend gave this recipe to me years ago and it became a family favorite right away, even before my kids became vegetarians. The recipe originally called for frying the corn tortillas before filling them, but I just soften them in the microwave. That means they may not always hold together, so be forewarned - they taste better than they look. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Jerry's Tasty BBQ Sauce
A classic southern BBQ sauce. Not too sweet. Not too spicy but tasty. Will be available at the Cole Reunion 2015 BBQ. Submitted by: "Jerry Ward"

Cookbook Recipe
Whole Wheat Pancakes
My sister-in-law made these pancakes for me many years ago. It was the first time I'd had whole wheat pancakes. They are much heavier than pancakes you may be used to, but I love the texture and the nutty whole wheat flavor. They are especially good with fresh fruit, or peaches that we've put up in the freezer. Submitted by: "Linda Ayers"

Cookbook Recipe
Custard Homemade Ice Cream
We have enjoyed this recipe every summer for the last 35 years. Leftover freezes creamy and easy to scoop. Can also be used as a great base recipe for adding fresh strawberries or peaches. To do so, just add 2 cups fresh fruit approximately half way through freezing. This recipe was used as a base recipe for Chocolate Chunk Cappuccino ice cream served at 2013 Cole Reunion. Submitted by: "Jerry Ward"

Cookbook Recipe
Jerry's New York Style Pizza Dough
Tired of Pizza Hut, Mazzio's and other franchise choices led to trying to develop a better pizza crust. Traditional, thin pizza with large bubbly edge and chewy crust. Submitted by: "Jerry Ward"

Cookbook Recipe
Mexican Cornbread
Favorite family cornbread recipe. Submitted by: "Jerry Ward"
