media!

Proceeds from "The Social Cookbook" support InvisiblePeople.tv -- the nationally-recognized nonprofit that fights poverty and homelessness using the power of social media. Our mission is to empower the homeless to get online, tell their stories and connect with support services.

The cookbook includes personal recipes from an all-star lineup of social media influencers, from Chris Brogan and Liz Strauss to Brian Solis and Beth Kanter.

In other words, it brings together some of the most visible people in social media to help some of the least visible people in our society. We are profoundly grateful to everyone who helped create "The Social Cookbook," as well as everyone who downloads it to help fight homelessness.

Cookbook Recipe
Mom's Tortilla Espanola by Brian Solis
My mother is from Madrid and she brings to the United States very traditional values around food and family. To choose one dish from an array of home-cooked Spanish favorites is almost possible…after all, everything is made with love right? However, not to let anyone reading this down, I would say that fond and lasting memories of my childhood are what they are because of Tortilla Espanola. Now, for those who know the majesty of true Spanish Toritilla, please skip ahead. For everyone else, let’s start with a very basic definition. Unlike the flat flour or corn tortillas we know so well, a Spanish Tortilla is closer to a fusion of an egg frittata and a potato pie. To me, Tortilla Espanola is the ultimate comfort food. Typically the tortilla measures between 8-to-12-inches around and is usually 1-2 inch thick with potatoes, eggs, onion, and sometimes with a very special Spanish Chorizo that was reserved for special occasions. Typing this is actually making me hungry… Of course the taste is as simple as it is majestic. It hits every taste bud just right. But for me, the most special and memorable experiences around Tortilla Espanola is my mother’s presentation and the smile she cast pridefully… she knew she would send us into gastronomical delight. Her smile was always contagious and the love that is always a critical ingredient in her recipe would spread to our stomachs and our hearts. With love to my mother. Thank you for the wonderful memories that unfolded around her cooking…then, now, and in the savory times ahead. You can follow Brian at @Briansolis on Twitter. Cookbook Recipe
Scottish Shortbread by Mari Smith
This is from my mom Christine. She says this is the closest recipe she's been able to find that is the closest to her "mum's recipe!" When I do my Xmas baking, this is the shortbread I make. I even have a round mold with a thistle!! Both my parents loved to bake and still do. My dad was a professional baker most of his life and my favorite was always shortbread! My sisters and I enjoyed dessert with dinner every day ... and I still have a sweet tooth but keep it in moderation these days! :) Cheers, Mari You can find Mari on twitter @MariSmith or on her website http://www.marismith.com/.

Popo Mikey's Famous Stuffing & Mom's Turkey & Gravy by David Armano
When I was growing up, Thanksgiving meant dealing with horrific traffic from Long Island to Staten Island, getting together with family, watching Mighty Joe Young, the Dallas Cowboys and enjoying the best stuffing on earth compliments of my cousin's grandfather AKA "Popo" Mikey. Mikey was a cook in the Navy and passed this recipe on to our family. It's not for the lighthearted—it's practically a meal in itself. Vegetarians beware. And Mom's turkey and gravy was exceptional. If you're looking for a little holiday meal inspiration, this could be it. And feel free to share your own in the comments. Here’s some quick information regarding how our cookbook platform works, along with a few tips for making the most of cookbooks you add to your library.

What is the Cookbook Café Platform?

Cookbook Café is our one-of-a-kind cookbook publisher, marketplace and reader. It empowers everyone to create, market and distribute a cookbook as both a web-based eBook and an iPad app. It also makes it incredibly easy for home cooks to discover and use amazing grassroots cookbooks they won't find anywhere else. Since 2012, we've published thousands of cookbooks authored by home chefs, nonprofit organizations, clubs, brands, etc. Our goal is to democratize cookbook publishing and make it easy to build an online library of amazing grassroots cookbooks.

How do I "download" a cookbook?

You don't need to "download" cookbooks or deal with any files. All of the cookbooks you select (free and paid) using Cookbook Café become available to you automatically on any device (computer, tablet or smartphone) whenever you’re logged-in to your free BakeSpace account.

When you see a cookbook you like, simply click the green "Get it Now" button. If you're not logged in to BakeSpace, you'll be asked to login (or join) so the cookbook can be added to your cookbook library. Once in your library, you can access the cookbook anytime, anywhere via BakeSpace.com, as well as our Cookbook Café iPad app.

While you're checking out cookbooks, also take some time to visit other parts of the delicious BakeSpace.com community where you can swap recipes and connect with others who share your passion for food and the culinary lifestyle.

Get ready to enjoy a uniquely smart and social cookbook experience!

Once a cookbook is added to your BakeSpace library, our proprietary recipe indexing technology makes it easy for you to find any specific recipe across all of your cookbooks… so there's no need to remember which cookbook contains that perfect recipe. In addition, you can connect directly with each cookbook author, leave comments/reviews and even ask questions about recipe substitutions, history, etc.
