I just got this from a new member Kathie - perhaps one of you can help...

I'm going camping in less than a month, and I'm looking for a recipe for a dutch oven (14") for large crowd. About 8 families are going and everyone has 1 nite to cook. I would like to find an incredible recipe to have for my cooking night. (if possible I need how many bricketts to use too.) Thanks very much. This is an awesome site.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.. Smile

Kathie--I just returned from camping this weekend and I do a beef roast(4-5#)and pork loin(6-8#). I use 2 sm cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1 dry packet of soup mix(beefy onion) & mushrooms, mix together with enough water to fill dutch oven 1/2 way. I'm not sure how many briquets my husband used but each brick is equal to 25 degrees. I'm going to say he used between 15-20 and he had to add more 3 hrs later. Once the meat starts getting tender(4 hours) I add potatoes, carrots and onions and cook until they are done approximately 1 hour. We also have done this using our tri-pod over the camp fire. Hope this helps in your search for dutch oven cooking.

WOW Jennifer! Thanks for that tidbit of info. I'm so excited and can't wait to share with my hubby (of course he'll probably tighten his lip and scowl at me because he is, after all, "the grill master" and the grill and smoker is HIS kitchen) LOL

Hi Kathie
Is it too late to send some recipes to you for your camping venture??

I have a Dutch Oven Cookbook in Word Doc form if you are still around and interested.

cebare1 - I don't think it's too late... maybe for the last trip, but it would be great for the rest of us. Smile
