We were very worried last night when we got our first frost warning (another to follow tonight) hubby ran out to start covering things when he stopped to ask me what needed to be covered. Well....
I thought about the onions that have already sprouted, and the cabbage that is almost done. Then I thought about the broccoli, the radishes, and the carrots?! It occurred to me that those wonderful fall veggies did not need covering from frost! It may slow their growth, but many report these foods to intensify in flavor from frost, and more so even under snow!
In fact snow is the best way to keep your carrots fresh! Forget harvesting those and bring them in for winter to go limp in the fridge. Leave them in the ground and break them out from under the ice during the winter to eat at anytime!
I'm hoping to have swiss chard and cabbage still available in January!
Just thought anyone worried about frost would like to know that.
However, you need to bring in those flowers or cover them if need be! They are WAY too delicate to hand much if any frost! _________________ Following my gardening obsession here:

I am glad I read this, I was cleaning up some of my beds today and was thinking of yanking out the carrots, now I will leave them out there and see how big they will get. Hoping they will get sweeter also. _________________ Patti
