Hey Y'all

This ? sounds dumb coming from a 60yo woman, but here it goes anyway... I bought a really nice dress at the FL Boys Ranch Store the other day, fits perfectly & is very comfy-looks great too.
Anywho when I got it home it says dry clean only on the care label. Now this dress is 100% Rayon which I thought was washable. It does have pleats on the bodice (top?) that just past the waist softly continue to the hem. Could this be the reason for the dry clean label?
I never buy clothes there because they don't seem to have things I like or that fit. This dress was brand new-still had the sale tag on - an $80.00 dress, and I got it for $4.00.

So the question is......dry clean or can I try hand washing & drip dry?

Thanks

Great find onthe dress. I think you can hand wash and hang to dry. the pleats might need pressed a little, but I think the whole thing should be fine.

Thanks for the help Karen, yup those pleats could drive me crazy. Luckily I wear dressy dresses so seldom that I should worry more about keeping the dust of it than cleaning the thing. Smile

Nubs....I found a thing at the grocery store once...it was for "dry cleaning" in your dryer. I forget how it worked exactly (I try to avoid drying clean only clothes like the plague but once in a while something slips by me)...but i used it...no harm done but I just never knew how "clean" the garment was...ya know? plus....I've heard that dry cleaning shortens the life of the clothing. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with the hand washing like Karen said. Smile

Danielle:

I saw that at the store the other day-I don't know about that either. I too avoid anything that requires dry cleaning, as a rule if I can't wash it - I don't buy it.
A few years ago I had lost a fair amount of weight & was freezing - all the time. We had a particularly cold winter & no matter how many layers of clothing I put on I couldn't stay warm. Had our fireplace going ALL the time. My husband took me to JC Penny & found the warmest coat they had-it was sooo nice. Suede outside, thick off white fleece type lining & a built in hood. It was really warm & was just what I needed. Problem is that obviously it is dry clean only & there is no dry cleaner here that can properly clean it & the exposed fleece has gotten soiled. Was told by locals that I would have to take it to Gainseville to get it cleaned without destroying it.
I seem to remember that waaay back I had a similar problem & I used corn starch to spot clean. Put it on, rub it in, leave a few minutes & shake then vacuum it off. Have been thinking of doing that to this one-especially since it will soon be winter here.
Whoa.....another long one-can you tell I don't get out much??? Very Happy
