We have a tradition of smoking a Pork Butt (apple cider marinade & then a spicy rub) and Chickens (marinated in beer, garlic, onion type brine) for Labor Day. All the friends come over and we eat and eat an eat.
Sides are usually Asian cucumber salad, Texas style beans, Saffron & Pancetta potato salad, Cantolupe & Mint salad, Portabella, Orange, & Mint Salad, Proscuitto wrapped asaragus (Greg loves that Proscuitto), and Watermelon Slurpees (adult slurpees).
Thought I might get some new ideas from you guys. Change it up a bit.

Michelle

We do almost all the summer entertaining since we're the only one of our tight group of friends that have a pool. But....................we're off the hook every labor day. On the Sunday, our good friends have a combo bday party for their daughter and labor day par-tay. Typical fare is:

- a whole lamb and a whole pig, roasted on a spit, courtesy of their neighbor who sets up his unit in their yard that day. imagine the sight and smell of them roasting for hours while you're popping cold ones all afternoon, yum!

- a large deep-fried turkey

- oven roasted stuffing to go with the turkey

- New Jersey shore caught blue claw crabs that are sauteed in garlic and olive oil (Steve's parents live down the jersey shore and catch these and cook them themselves. The past two years his mother's brought me a couple dozen just to take home!)

- various bbq'd italian sausages (basil, cheese and basil, broccoli rabe, sun dried tomato and asiago, etc, etc, etc)

- bbq'd burgers and dogs and whatever elst they throw on.

- all kinds of apps and desserts

And of course, no labor day party at their house would be complete without "uncle Joey", up from Florida. He's very old school. He's a pisser to hang out with. They guy drinks bottle after bottle of merlot and never changes. He says he's an electrician. one time, he was up for new years eve a few years back and i was outside, hacking a butt with him and i asked him how he became an electrician. he says "you want to know how i became an electrician? you really want to know?". When i told him yes, he started the story with "I whacked some guy with a baseball bat..."

I'll finish it another time, lol!
