This week is our State Fair...I always go and have a foot long corn dog. It's the best part of the fair!! Well this year we aren't going to be able to make it so I was reading this yesterday and thought hey I'll surprise my fiance and make corn dogs this weekend! I get home last night and we are watching TV and he looks at me and says hey why don't we try to make our own corn dogs this weekend?? LOL!! I said I know just where to get a recipe to try!! _________________ http://bakespace.com/?stewiesmom |

I get excited to go to the fair and get corn dogs too! I was not able to go this year because I was out of town. Thankfully for me there is a drive-in restaurant right down the road from my house that I can go down to and get a corn dog and homemade root beer for about $3.
That is so funny that he mentioned trying to make them after you were planning on surprising him. Maybe you can have fun making them together now. Heck, you might as well fry up some funnel cakes while the grease is hot. _________________ ~ Amber

I know the ones you can buy at the grocery store are made with honey so maybe this recipe will work better for you.
Minnesota State Fair Corn Dogs
CDKitchen http://www.cdkitchen.com
Category: Corn Dogs
Serves/Makes: 10 | Difficulty Level: 3 | Ready In: < 30 minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup boiling water
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder
1 package hot dogs, any variety
10 bamboo skewers, soaked in water
Directions:
Heat oil to 350 degrees.
In a bowl, combine cornmeal, salt, honey and boiling water. In a separate bowl, beat together egg, milk and butter Add egg mixture to cornmeal mixture. Sift together flour and baking powder, then incorporate it into the mix until smooth.
Insert stick into hot dogs, dip in batter, and place in a preheated fryer until golden brown -- approximately eight to 10 minutes. Drain, and serve. |
