What? Pull out .. or backing up? that's funny. Weeds.. I have the same problem, but exactly the opposite. I am experimenting with gardening for the first time in my life - but I'm going about it in a very unusual way which I fear I might regret.
My BF's sister has an AMAZING garden. She prides herself in what she plants and the quality.
I however, just water and see what grows. Honestly... If I find seeds on the ground, I plant them and see if they grow. I think it's almost a challenge for me... will it grow? What will grow? How long will it take? Unfortunately, I have discovered that there were a lot of weeds dormant in the dirt. With my daily watering, I think they are celebrating and peaking their ugly head out of the dirt. There are some funny looking ones, but it's better than a lot of dirt. Plus, I rent so this is really not a long term issue. .hahhahah I have discovered what seems to be blades of grass, although they are probably not grass growing every few feet. I'm hoping one of the seeds I planted grows cause it would be so much fun to say I did that!
Anyhow.. this isn't about gardening... sorry! |

Someone mentioned coffee grounds. You can put these around your plants outside for a great fertilizer and water your plants with left over cold coffee. I use my coffee ground this way and my plants love it!
Here in N Texas they make recycling easy. We have a bin and we can put anything into it, even junk mail, and they sort it all for us. We recycle everything we can.
I recently found a place to get some reusable, washable wrappers too for my husbands sandwiches which I'm going to order so we don't keep using plastic bags. Plastic has petroleum in it so the less plastic you can use the better.
We also invested in reusable bottles and put a filter on hour kitchen sink for water. That way - no plastic water bottles.

I used coffee grounds around my lettuce in the spring, it was supposed to deter slugs from eating my lettuce and also be nutritional for them. I usually have a big problem with slugs, and none touched my lettuce. I will definitely remember that tip for next year. I keep an organic garden.

www.DirtDoctor.com. Howard Garrett is on the radio here in N TX every Sunday am and I've learned so much from him.
We have fire ant mounds in our back yard and just Sunday he said to use Nutrasweet on them. The toxins in it kill ants, even the ones in your house. Imagine what it's doing to US!

I certainly will try it....
I don't use Nutrasweet, but, being in Florida, I have fire ants too. I can't put ant poison down because I don't want it washing into my herbs.

The Dirt Doctor also recommends orange oil for fire ants. I won't use any toxins around my yard as I have dogs and cats. we use organic fertilizers and pre-emergents to do away with weeds.
Many organic things you can make yourself.

You can use tea leaves the same as coffee grounds. I'm not patient enough to carefully put them around my plants -- I just empty my teapot into the garden bed. I try to pick a different spot every time! 
We recycle and reuse as much as we can. My husband and I take our lunch to work everyday in laptop lunchboxes (obentec.com, no affiliation) so we don't have a lot of waste from those. I really want to start a worm bin, but Hubby isn't very excited about that. |

I've been reading a lot lately about reusable, washable sandwich wrappers and things so you don't have to use plastic bags for everything. I think that's a good idea. I'm going to get one for my husband who takes his lunch every day.
