I don't think I've ever had snow peas before. When you serve them with dip, are they raw or do you blanche them?
I didn't make it to the farmers market this morning. By the time I finished my bike ride it was looking like rain and I wanted to get my bike home and inside before the rain hit. I hope to hit a local family farm stand sometime during the week. _________________ Sheryle

Vicki, not very healthy but we love snow peas and creamed potatoes. We also love them in stir fries or just steamed and eaten with some salt and butter. I have always meant to try those recipes where you fill them and eat them cold. Hmmmm, may have to look into that. I hope to get to stop at a farm market on the way home tomorrow. Looking forward to that. Uh oh, I just remembered my favorite one is closed on Sundays. Sigh. _________________ Patti

We stopped at the local large farm market on Friday and got the strawberries I used to make the jam. They were a lot smaller than the ones we buy at the Giant Eagle, and you have to really wash them. We are still in the picking season around here, so I am surprised when I hear Sheryle saying they are already done in Ohio and Pattit in the middle of the state.
We use snow peas only for Chinese Stir Fry. Do you know if you have to grow snow peas, or are they just the young beans like we grow every year in the garden? I pick them when they are just starting to show a little pea in them and do the stir fry like I said. I think the peas I have gotten at Chinese markets have a thicker skin. _________________ Karen

Karen, our weather caused our strawberry season to be much shorter than normal. We stopped at a farm market on our way home today and they were just unloading some strawberries from New York because so many people around here are searching for strawberries. We got a quart of those, a quart of snap peas, a cantaloupe, a pint of sweet cherries and a beautiful orange tomato ( the low acid kind.) Ahhhh isn't this time of year wonderful?? _________________ Patti

Tango... I've been waiting to make a cucumber salad - how do you make yours?
My dad would do cucumber, tomato and then add oil & vinegar with a pinch of sea salt. I can't get the combination right and he just pours it on so I can never tell how much stuff he's using. Advice? |

This is what I did:
Cucumber Salad
3 large cucumbers, peeled, thinly sliced
1 cup white vinegar
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
dash ground cayenne pepper
dash dried parsley flakes
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
dash dried leaf basil
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients except cucumbers; heat until sugar melts. Pour warm mixture over cucumbers. Store covered in refrigerator.
Serves 6 to 8 _________________ http://bakespace.com/?tango
