Good Morning, Friends!

I picked up a variety of fruit and vegetables at the Farmer's Market. Now, I hope to try making Freezer Pickles, only three or four pints. Has anyone made them? And peaches, what a surprise... the crop may be very small due to the spring frost, but so sweet and delicious!!

What are your plans for dinner? Depending on DH's business schedule, I'm either making grilled chicken or homemade soup (accompanied by a salad and fresh fruit). Soup has that nice "simmer factor" - nice and flexible. Smile

Ann
- Now that temperatures have dropped into the 70's and 80's, I have seen more bugs, too. However, it has not been a "buggy" summer... can't complain. Smile

Fan - Thank you for sharing pictures of your weekend outing! Is your sunburn feeling better today?

Debbie - How nice that you could attend your nephew's birthday cookout. I hope you and Jim feel better soon.

Martha - Oh, my! You mentioned chicken and dumplings in your last post. Do you make the flat or puffy dumplings?

Have a great day!
~~Vicki

have been very busy with the garden , i picked at least 5 -5 gallon pails of green beans and at least 3 pails of cucumbers been making pickles and next will be tomatos. I been giving away a lot of the beans though.
Then I have been sick because have not been sleeping or eating right. hubby wakes me up at night because he cant sleep so a lot of times i end up on the couch.
Had a very nice family reunion last weekend lots of people and good food though thanks to my nephew and his wife for planning it. got to take my dad with he will be 92 in a couple weeks and he looks great except he has been in out of the hospital for falling he has vertago and gets very weak and falling. we had to wear a different colar shirt for each emediate family of my mom and dads my family had to wear yellow and so on it was a great time. now back to my canning projects.

Hi Everybody!

We finally got enough rain so everything is pretty and green again.
I actually have a lawn again instead of brown hay!! The only trouble with that is... it's growing so fast that now I have to mow it almost every other day.

Fan - What a nice trip you had. Your country is so beautiful!
thanks for the photos. How is your sunburn?

Ann - Ewwwww! I hate those kind of bugs!!! They scare me because they move so fast! Luckily I have two highly trained exterminators in my house. I think the weather does have something to do with them showing up.

Debbie - How did your cookout go? Is your nephew home for good or is he just here for a visit?

Carolyn - Boy! You must really have some garden!! I know it's a lot of work, but it's so worth it, don't you think? Have you checked the prices for fresh vegetables in the supermarket lately? Your reunion sounded wonderful. It's great that you could all get together.

Vicki - My Chicken & Dumplings came out pretty good. The dumplings were light and fluffy..... I think I would have liked them better if they were dense like I remember my Mother making. Is that the kind you make? What's your recipe? The one I tried had a can of corn and a can of peas mixed in the "stew"...... I think that was a little too much. It would have been better with just a cup or so of frozen peas. Oh well. it was edible and Jim liked it. I'll try it again with a different recipe.

I volunteered to make macaroni salad for Jim's golf tournament tomorrow. So I had better get busy. I like it to marinate in the refrigerator for a day to set the flavor. I'm going to make 5 lbs of (raw) macaroni. And I have to chop all the veggies and mix it up. So I had better get going..........

Hi to anybody else who drops in...

Hi everybody, have a brilliant start of the week Very Happy

Please help me out Shocked . Today the university's freshmen arrived and conquered the streets and parks.

They are around for a week to gather information about the university, housing, social life, supermarkets and other survival necessities. College is about to start in three weeks from now. I survived such a week almost 30 years ago before starting university. Smile
Martha & Vicki, I stayed indoors yesterday and tortured my skin with plain ewe's yogurt. The sunburn is practically gone apart from my left ear Laughing .
And dinner had to be made with the leftover yogurt....

Carolyn, how wonderful you had such a great time at the family reunion. Smart idea of choosing a different colour for each family to wear. Good to hear your garden's produce is getting along so nicely, but please take care of your self too.

Carolyn - Great news that you're getting a lot out of your garden. Have you had to do a lot of watering this summer, or have you had more rain in the UP? How nice that you could take your dad to the family reunion.

Martha - I had never made or even had dumplings until January, when someone gave me a recipe using flat dumplings or dumplins (her term). Smile (Will post the recipe in the August thread.) I'd like to try your type of dumplings, too. Five pounds of macaroni salad! Wow!!!

Fan - When the freshmen arrive: Do they crowd the streets unpacking, community work, orientation, or something else? I'm glad your sunburn is almost gone.

~~Vicki
