Morning everyone,
Hope everyone is able to report in that has been hit with super storm Sandy. What a crazy storm. Watched the weather channel last night before going to bed...what gets me is the water surge. The one guy that was talking said it has never gotten this high in some part of NYC. Guess it's the way the wind is blowing inland.
We were home before the wind started, that didn't start til late afternoon, 6 or 7. Went to bed around 9:30 and didn't sleep so good, that wind was horrible. Did hear a big branch fall on the road before going to bed. We are like PattiT -- have big trees around the front of the house, worry about them.
Told Jim last night, glad I had those ones in the back taken down years ago!
Debbie - will have teeth pain til I can get to the dentist on Friday. Have been taking Advil several times a day. Did you get snow????
PattiT - it took the storm a good 3 hours to travel from your house to here. Hmm, lights are flickering this morning. Worried that the electric would go off and we wouldn't wake up for work. So far so good.
Pat/nubs - you're so funny! You always give me a giggle. I'm surprised that more of the USA didn't get hit with such a wide storm.
Better get around here, need to get my lunch ready then I am leaving a bit earlier than normal. Have a feeling I'll be dodging tree limbs/branches and people's garbage cans.
Take care,

We really really lucked out here. No power outage, no damage that I can see from in here. We have very heavy picnic benches on our deck and they got tossed around a little, so glad they didn't hit the house. I think most of my family made out okay. The son who has had trouble with basement flooding said even after having the repairs made to "fix" the problem by professionals will have to rip out their latest flooring and let things dry out. All schools and daycares in the area are closed. Madison and her Mom were home yesterday and when she heard her Mom saying "Uh, oh we are taking on water" Madison said "I am on my way, what can I do to help?" She sounds so grown up sometimes.
Hubby is at work again today, he said he is encountering some road closures. I was so relieved when he walked in the door last evening. They are reporting on the t.v. now that our county has the most power outages of any central Pa. counties. Like I said, we were really really lucky.
**Debbie and Tango, I filled in a form last evening to see how much I would pay per year for coverage from AARP and Medicare for medications and coverage and it said my out of pocket expense would be $19,000 something. That was their least expensive plan?? I guess I will keep looking around. Did either one of you get snow??
**Ann, seems like a good idea to leave early for work, you never know what might be found on the roads. Glad to hear that you made out okay. Hubby set a travel alarm to get up today because he was worried about losing power overnight.
**Nubbins, my goodness you are brave, taunting Mother Nature like that. I think she would do well to stay away from you, you are a TRUE force of nature!! That is wonderful news, that you don't have a problem with your water after all. Good thing you remembered when you did.
I hope everyone checks in today to let us know how they made out. _________________ Patti

Hi everybody, glad to hear you are safe from Sandy's wrath.
Couldn't check in earlier, cause I was having class and came home late. Pretty exhausting, but luckily my neighbour had opened his cocktail bar and gave my a chance to get rid of my newly acquired knowledge.
Even Mini was at her best as queen of the bar.
Ann-Marie, take your time driving. Better safe than sorry.
Tango, glad you are okay.
PattiT, looks like your area has had a lucky escape. Good luck with the insurance.
Gonna make a quick run through the newspapers and headlines. Everybody else, please check in if you can. _________________ Fanmajie

Hi Everybody!
I'm OK! The storm came through last night but didn't do too much damage. And (at least in my neighborhood) we didn't lose power. They are saying heavy winds and more rain are still coming...but the worst is over, I guess. Whew! Dodged that one!
Nubbins - Great news that you're well is OK after all!! But about the storm... you should know better than to taunt Mother Nature!!!!
Ann - I'm surprised you didn't get more of the storm. It looked like it was bad around Lake Erie!!Be careful coming home from work. It might be still rough tonite.
Fan - Those were some yummy looking cocktails! I'll bet they tasted good after your long day.
Pattit - Glad you're OK too. I'm not surprised about the AARP insurance. I think that organization is a big scam. I refuse to join it. I think they use their reputation to rip off seniors, not help them. Now that they started selling insurance, travel, prescriptions, hearing aids, etc their prices are outrageous!
Tango - Glad the storm wasn't too bad for you either! I thought for sure you would get it worse than you did!
Stay warm and dry everybody!! _________________ -----Martha |
