I posted Labor Day weekend that our sweet little beagle, Sandy, was dying. Then she came back, and, after a few weeks, she was happy and running and playing like her old self.
She hadn't eaten since last Thursday. My husband and I hoped she would bounce back again. We had our family over for Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday since our kids were busy with their spouse's families on Thursday. By Saturday, Sandy was quiet and a little weak. Our son and daughter and my mom all said good-bye to her. We still had hope, but by Sunday she could hardly stand. Monday she drank some water, but couldn't keep it down. I was making dinner Monday night, and I looked over at her and she was having a severe seizure. I called to my husband. We sat and petted her during her seizure. We wrapped her in a blanket, and had her put to sleep.
Thank you all for your kind words of support. It was so sad, but she did have a happy life. We'll miss her terribly.
At the same time, on Monday, we found out our 29 year old married daughter and her husband are expecting a girl. It will be our first grandchild.
Life is filled with good times and sadness. Good night, Sandy. |

Reading this reminded me of my cat Seether. Same thing happened.. seizures and then I had to put her to sleep. I'm deeply saddened by your loss. Pets surprise us when they go. They are so small, but they fill so much of home that when they do go, the house becomes almost too quite. I'll be thinking about you! OXOXOXO
On a happier note, please tell your daughter congratulations! How exciting this time is for her. Hopefully the next nine months will be filled with more joy than sadness. |

Hello Sandy, I was very sad to hear you had to put your dear sweet little girl down. That's a hard choice I've had to make, and the only thing that helps with the decision to do it, is the fact that we don't want our furbaby to be in pain! My heart goes out to you and your family and know that she was happy while with you and she'll be a cherished memory on your hearts!
May I also add my Congratulations to the upcoming birth of your first grandbaby! I have 3 and there's nothing in the world better than Grandchildren!
Take care of yourself.....HUGS, Debbie _________________ Debbie

Oh Ronna, so sorry to hear about the loss of your furbaby. From reading your previous posts, I know she had a long and loving life with you. She's out of pain and in a better place, bless her heart
I have a 12 yr old maltese and she's slowing down, half blind, almost deaf, and I think has arthritis. She's been my bestest little buddy and we've been through a lot together. I know her time is coming soon, but it doesn't make it any easier. I never thought I'd be "one of those" pet people, but they do have a way of stealing your heart and definitely becoming part of your family. We just have to cherish them for the time we have with them. |

I forgot to mention.. are you familiar with the rainbow bridge? It's a forum I went to when my cat passed away. They have a candle light ceremony every monday. The people are really wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone who has lost a pet. http://www.petloss.com The site is very simple, but they really care.
Seether died on July 15th, 2006 and I still cry to this day when I think of her. You will feel bad for a long time. It's just the way it is. Accept it because it will make it much easier for you. |

Ronna, I am so sorry that the end has come for Sandy. You made such a good life for Sandy. I am so sorry for you loss, they really do love us unconditionally, that is what is so special about our pets. Congratulations on becoming a Grandma soon. Like Debbie said, there is nothing like it!! You just can't imagine how great it is until you hold that grandchild in your arms and heart. _________________ Patti

I really do appreciate the kind words from all of you. My husband and I are okay. I still look over and talk to Sandy some. She wanted to be wherever I was all of the time, and it will take a while, but we're okay. My husband has mentioned getting another dog at some point. We're hoping to do a little more traveling and it really does make it easier not having a dog. We'll see. There's a puppy store in the shopping center near by. We might go up there and just take a look one day. We would probably get another give-away-dog. Sandy was a give-away in the newspaper. The people wanted an outdoor dog and she was a people dog. She sure was a sweetie.
Thanks again. It was nice having you all to share how I was feeling.
Hugs always,
Ronna |

Ronna I am sorry to hear about Sandy, too.My dh had a pit bull when we got together 5 yrs ago he had her since she was 3 wks old, bottle fed her because her mom had to be put down. She was 17 yrs old when we lost her, will be 4 yrs in jan. She was a really sweet dog too, esp being a pit bull. She died the week after my I lost my mom. That was a really rough time for me and him. We went to AR to my mom's funeral and left her here w/ our neighbor and his db checking in on the pets. Well she was already in poor health, but wouldn't eat or dink anything for anyone while we were gone. the night we came home she was lying in the floor in front of the door. she hung on for a couple more days with my dh babying her and sitting with her the whole time. She would cry when he lseft her side. I know it hurt him like losing a family member. So I understand what you are going through.
edited to add Congrats on the grandbaby. I have 6 dgs and 3 dgds' they range in age from 19 -1 _________________ Once in a while I dream that a gigantic squirrel is carrying me away. Does that make me a NUT? |

We lost two beloved pets within 3 months of each other, I will never forget the pain. We decided we didn't want to ever go through that again. We are empty nesters and enjoy the freedom of taking off anytime we want and not worrying about someone to take care of our pets. It is sad sometimes with no pets, but I think for us we made the right decision. _________________ Patti

Oh my dear, I've been out of touch for a while and I was coming here to post about the hit and run driver that killed my son's dog when he moved in here over Thanksgiving and now I see this post. My heart if breaking for you. When they cremated Ash, my granddog, they gave us a beautiful card from Rainbow Bridge and it made my grown son and I cry good tears. It's so inspiring. My prayers for Sandy and all of you.
