For some reason owners are leaving their pets behind in home foreclosures.. why? I have no clue. I just got an email from another group I belong to and they posted a URL to a myspace account with photos of two dogs (brother and sister) left behind when their owners moved out. Now it's really not my place to tell everyone to go to myspace and check it out.. but if not now, when?

If you are a pet owner you can just imagine how expensive this rescue has become for the organization that has taken responsibility of these two dogs. If there is anything you can do to help out, I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it. It seems pretty legit and well, the photos stand on their own.

I know, depressing. But what's a community for if we can't reach out and put out the call for help?

Faith and her brother Joe Schmoe were left behind in the backyard by their family when they moved due to foreclosure.

The neighbors were watching to see if anyone was going to come back for them. One day Faith would not get up anymore and was moaning so the neighbors called animal control.

These two poor Boxers had been left with no food or water. Both are starved and their bodies reflect this terribly. Exposed without shelter to rain and the freezing cold. Both Faith and Joe have swollen bleeding skin from mange and parasitic infections.

Crying the animal control officer carried Faith into the San Bernardino hospital. Faith was considered dead when she arrived. No temperature, her eyes were rolled back in her head, but with love and medical care she survived and is fighting to survive.

It has been one week and she is hanging in there trying to get better. She can stand and eat on her own finally but must spend at least two more weeks in the hospital maybe more.

Joe is doing well and should be able to be released in another week too.

Faith weighs 36 pounds but should weigh at least 80 pounds. Joe weighs 65 but should weigh over 100 pounds.

Who could do this to these sweet animals? The proper steps are being taken to find the owner and press charges.

Please help Boxer Rescue and Tazzy Fund continue to offer the best medical care available to these dogs they need to stay in the hospital as long as they need to.

My nephew recently drove down to Baltimore to rescue a dog who had been left in a home after it's owner passed away. Relatives knew the dog was there but no one wanted it. The poor dog had fur so matted that they had to immediately take it to the groomer and have it shaved, it had sores all over it's body. It now has a nice home and children to love it. I can not understand how people can turn their heads and look the other way when children or animals are not being treated properly. Thank you Babette for bringing this to light, I had no idea that this was becoming such a problem.

We went to my sisters the other day and she had the sweetest dog. It was a lab and golden retriver mix that someone had abused and didn't want any longer...so she rescued him and although he was sort of shy when he first meant us...he took to us very quickly and was the sweetest dog I've been around for a long time. I hope they find these people that abandon these poor boxers and throw their butts in jail! Sad situation!

Years ago, my hubby and I tried to take in a rescued german shepard. A fellow firefighter had found him left for dead on the side of the road, he had been hit by a car and just left there. THe rushed him to the vet, and she said he was a stray (given his condition). He had a broken leg and had half of one of his front paws removed due to the accident, which was in the process of healing. The firefighter didn't want to keep him only because he lived in an apartment. (his shift was 24hrs at a time)

We took him in spite of the fact that we already had a little maltese. We named him "Max" and our three daughters fell in love with him immediately. Well apparently, Max had been on his own for awhile and kept "stalking" and attacking our maltese. (I think he thought she was a rabbit) When hubby would intervene, he would bare his teeth as if to attack hubby for interferring with his meal. Our girls were really small, so of course I said, he has to go. He had just been "wild" for too long.

Well, the firefighter that originally found him, took him back and eventually found him a good (no children or other pets) home.

The point is, none of us gave up on "Max". Where he didn't "fit" in one home, another loving home was found. I'm happy to say that "Max" is doing fine and well. Healthy and happy after all these years!

That's horrible and it's disgusting that people can be so heartless as to abandon or abuse something so helpless as an animal or a child. I can understand hitting on hard times and possibly going through something so tough as a foreclosure. I can even see where the people may not have had the option of moving somewhere that they could take their pets, but there is no excuse for abandoment or abuse.

all of our pets have either been found on the street, or from shelters..first one was a beautiful irish setter,katie, that just came up to a neighbor, and wouldn't leave..no collar or tags...she was my first dog, i was 22yo..it took 22 yrs of begging to finally get my parents to let me have a dog. once we had her, my parents wanted to keep her when i got my own place, and for her to move to florida with them!!! (didn't happen) then a shepard/akita mix, amber..sweetest moosh ever, then assis ,cocker spaniel from the pound..adopted him the day he was to be euthanized..he was another story...completely nuts, paranoid, BIT us a few times, and every other dog in town HATED him...they would HOWL when we walked past their yards..i said it was like having a jackel as a pet!!! veryone said to get rid of him, but there was no one goofy enough to take him on but us, so he lived with us for 8 yrs, went blind and deaf, and STILL looking for trouble...now we have a toy poodle,penny, who was blind when we took her, sweet AND sane...whew!!! what a relief!!!

my bh volunteers for a horse rescue, Bella Rescue, on long island. kathy martin, the director rescues "the worst of the worst" one or two at a time, and boards them at a barn in medford, long island.
one, recently adopted, jessie, an apoloosa, she bought (by the pound) from a killer/buyer at auction. he was only 3yrs old, and was to be sold for meat...now he's living upstate ny with some mini horses and goats, and being trained to ride.
he other one, howdee, is hanging out in kentucky for awhile..her owner had killed himself, and his elderly parents just threw hay over the fence around their backyard barn...the only problem was, howdee was in with a dominant male, who wouldn't let her eat, and she had a horrible leg wound from a fence, AND parasites in her brain, that made her wobbley...she came to Kathy skinny, off balance, and very shy and afraid..she wouldn't even take a peppermint treat...now she's fat and sassy and a beautiful horse....manny, the man who owns her barn, took her to kentucky forawhile to see if he can find her a home there...meanwhile, the lady who lives on the next farm, brings howdee pancakes!!!
