We are losing members and gaining members in our cooking group. Since we're doing this I'm wondering if there is anything that would make it better or more fun. Any suggestions?

What is the approach?

I've done it in the past where each time there is a theme, and you rotate who brings what kind of dish (so the same person doesn't always get stuck with the entree, or the alcohol, etc.)

Also it helps to make sure the participants really love food/cooking. If they don't it will potentially be unfair to the others who go out of their way with care for the food they are making...I've experienced this as well. These people tend to want to come for the 'free' food but not necessarily interesting in making it...

Another thing we tried was to keep a blog about it with pics, posting all of the recipes from what we brought the night before so it's like a living resource for the group. I think it can work and am anxious to get my little group going again but it's so hard when everyone works such long hours these days.

I have a group of friends who we play poker together and we combine a cooking group with the game. So everyone makes or brings something and then we play poker.. munching throughout. It makes for a fun evening and since the table seats 8, we all fit around it. I look at it like a modern day knitting group (but knitters these days are pretty hip so I should probably stop saying that.. ).... hahahah

Just keep it going Michele, like with any group, it's going to have it's ups and downs. Kudos to you keeping involved and trying to keep it fresh. I completely admire you for having one to begin with, I wish I could find just a couple of friends who would be interested.

You do already rotate and such like Jules suggested don't you? I also like her idea of the blog thing....I think Babs set up a "group cookbook" on here didn't she?, that would be something to do too, easier to share those yummy recipes and pics (or wherever else you choose)

As for the less interested free loaders, dump a big job in their lap, that'll get them running. (probably a rude solution, but hey, if it works....)

Lids - the commitment is hard for some people b/c we meet once a month on a Saturday and sometimes people can't make it. We've had people leave b/c they don't have the space to host but we now know to find that out in the beginning.

Jules - love the blogging and photos idea. How do I set that up?
