I'm going through New Jersey Dining Out magazine and there are a bunch of restaurants I'd really like to try. Let me know if you've been to any of these and what you think of them.

After Athens - Rutherford
This is a Greek BYO that has outdoor dining! Perfect for this weather! There is one dessert that is really intriguing b/c it kind of reminds me of a sweet version of what my grandmother used to make for me. It's called
Galactobouriko - mixture of farina, eggs and butter, baked in filo and topped with honey. OMG does that not sound delish???

This is a little fancier and apparently the decor is incredible. There is outdoor dining and an extensive wine list. Everything on their menu looks great!

Now this one I'm surprised I never heard of. Would you believe their Chef is only 28 years old! Is that not inspiring?!?!?!

Chakra - Paramus
www.chakrarestaurant.comI've heard of this one and for some reason I always thought it was Indian. HA! It's total not. It's New American and has European and Asian influences.
I need to try the Roasted French Breast of Chicken - white corn poletna, baby purple cauliflower and a maderia wine pan-demi (this is exactly what their description says). The magazine says that there are monthy wine dinners and BYO nights!

Martini Grill - Woodridge (not sure where in Bergen that is)

Magazine says it's been frequented by Britney Spears, Steven Spielberg, Johnny Depp and a bunch more people I don't feel like typing out. lol Filet Mignon is only $26 here but what I really would like to try is the Crescent Duck - Roasted half-duck served over a cranberry-walnut couscous with a pomegranate-mustard jus reduction. Wow!

BYO with Patio dining. This place has more than your average pasta dishes. I'm drooling here! And as you all know I'm not a fish eater but I would totally try this (from someone else's plate of course) Roasted Pistachio-Crusted Sea Bass served in a champagne sauce with wild rice!


Rare The Steakhouse - Little Falls

Seems to be pretty reasonably priced compared to the other featured Steakhouses (The Park, Porter House, Esty Street, River Palm).
I can totally go for the Veal Rib Chop. I never buy veal at home b/c his highness doesn't eat it.

Biaggio's is a bit overpriced for the quality. Well, check that. I haven't been there in over 5 or 6 years and if the chef is only 28, i'm sure he wasn't there back then. That's how it was then though. Bensi quality, at about 30% more expensive.


Chakra is really good but really expensive so just be prepared. I've only eaten there once...with chef billy and his wife. Billy trained the chef there years ago so we got a sampling of pretty much everything on the menu. He cut us a break for sure and it was still expensive. If you do go, and it's not too large a group (6 or less), when you make the reservation, request one of the booths against the wall. Most of them are oval style with pillows all around as the back. It's kinda like the inside of Jeannie's bottle.

and if anyone ever gets down to Cape May, this place is a must try. it's gorgeous, inside and out and the food is AMAZING
