My little (fat, actually) chihuahua, Dolce, is suffering terribly from allergies. It must be a seasonal thing since she had them last August, too. The itchy skin is making her miserable. I have been giving her a little Benedryl twice a day (the vet's advice from last summer) and that seems to help her get some sleep, but she was up half of the night rubbing her head on the carpet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

there's a shampoo that might help. Its called Ultra MD by Kelco. Its an all natural shampoo and is great for skin issues.

Thanks, Danielle, I am going to give it a try. My sister has some shampoo that might be the same thing (her dog is allergic to everything) and she has some spray, too. If it doesn't help I'll have to take her in to the vet again. I'm just certain they will tell me the same thing.

i have a dog that we rescued and when we first got her she wouldn't stop scratching I felt so bad for her. first thing we did was take her to the vet. they suggested baby benadrly and she also gave us a spray that I don't remember the name of right this moment. but here is my advice other than to take your pup to the vet again.

this worked for us:
take your dog to the groomer on a regular basis. tell them your dog has a skin condition where he skin is itchy from allergies. the groomer will know what shampoo and conditioner to use to get your dog back on the right path of not being so agitated. we now take our dog to the groomer on a regular basis to get a hair cut and a shampoo and this investment has completely stopped all of her scratching and now she is happy and so are we. I hope this helps. best of luck.
