Now that I'm back for a few days...
I think a few (or more) bottles of Shiraz are in order...(that's what's in the cupboard right now)
Thank you for missing me...
DECEMBER WINE: Shiraz
Shīrāz

FROM WIKIPEDIA: Syrah is a dark-skinned variety of grape used in wine. Syrah is grown in many countries and is primarily used to produce powerful red wines, which enjoy great popularity in the marketplace, relatively often under the synonym Shiraz. Syrah is widely used to make a dry red table wine, which can be both varietal or blended. Wines made from Syrah are often quite powerfully flavored and full-bodied. The variety produces wines with a wide range of flavor notes, depending on the climate and soils where it is grown, as well as other viticultural practices chosen. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries (usually dark as opposed to red), chocolate, espresso and black pepper. No one aroma can be called "typical" though blackberry and pepper are often noticed. With time in the bottle these "primary" notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory "tertiary" notes such as leather and truffle. "Secondary" flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, including winemakers' practices (such as oak barrel and yeast regimes), and land terroir qualities.
Here's how it works.. pick a type of wine and we all go out, buy a bottle and come back and rate it. You will need to post:

Mmmm, Shiraz. One of my favorites. But where do I put the review I made for the interim wine? Don't tell me I drank a whole bottle of Mourvèdre for nothing! Well, I guess it's never for nothing if you enjoyed it. And I did. Which is why I'm going to bed. Right now. _________________ Cooking Stuff

YIPEE! I'm so glad Pat is here to tell me what to drink! I was worried about trying to find one on my own! LOL. Well, it's a red so I'm excited! Review to come soon.....Pat or Shane (or anyone for that matter), can either of you recommend a particular kind for me to try? I'm very used to sweet stuff and from Pat's description, Shiraz looks dry so I'm a little nervous.... _________________ -Joy

OMG, I'm so excited!!! This is EXACTLY the one I was going to pick. (Qui, are you peeking inside my head again???)
I'm with Joy though, I'd prefer a semi-dry to semi-sweet so if anyone has a particular recommendation, please let us know. |
