Thanks Eric We plan on something on just staying home and maybe cooking out or something. He is a very hard person to buy gifts for, He doesn't really need anything, and he works outside a lot, I found a 3 cd collection of old country music yesterday for him and his dd is sending him a watch and a gourmet apple pie from somewhere. She lives in Dallas and won't be here. And the best thing was his estranged dd he hasn't talked to in over 5 yrs sent him a gift the other day' A box of chocolate from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. That was a really good surprise! It is a long story about that. I have never met her. That was before I met him. _________________ Once in a while I dream that a gigantic squirrel is carrying me away. Does that make me a NUT? |

Thanks DD I really love making cakes. I have making them for several years, but just took the classes last yr. I am waiting to get in the gumpaste and fondant classes but my instuctor has to wait until she gets enough students signed up for it. So maybe I will just teach myself, LOL I already bought the kit and the instruction book, so it probably isn't much different thn playing with polymer clay. _________________ Once in a while I dream that a gigantic squirrel is carrying me away. I just recently started learning to work with fondant too. I made just a couple of cakes and got some really good tips online. If you go to my profile and check out my blog, I have some instructions for working with a fondant recipe I posted here. I have some pics there too. (at first it was intimidating, but ended up a bit easier than I thought) There aren't any classes around here either...so maybe we can learn together from others here as well as from each other |

Patticake- I hadn't used the Wilton, but before I even got started found this recipe and everyone ranted and raved and said it was the first fondant they would actually eat...it tastes like fudge! you should really try it...

You'll want a buttercream recipe to go in between the fondant and cake, you can use your favorite, but in case you don't have one, here is another I posted...

I can't take credit for either one, I got them from a website (hince the name Peg's Buttercream) the page no longer exists, I wish it did, she had wonderful instructions!
Anywho, sorry Eric for hijacking your thread, but I am excited to find another fondant buddy |
