So tomorrow is the wife's bday and she doesn't want to go out so i'll be whipping something up. Typically, i'll steam lobsters or make up a shellfish meddly. Not really into this year. Anyone have suggestions for a nice birthday meal that's upscale but unique? I'm not all that exotic of a cooker so i tend to make similar dishes a lot.
Let's hear some good ones, peeps! _________________

| Filet mignon, scalloped potatoes with gruyere on top, and some steamed broccoli. I would like that for my birthday meal, you can use your mandoline to slice the potatoes and onions. |

Good suggestion. She likes gruyere too so that would set it apart somewhat! Of course, she always has to have her greens too! I'll keep this one as a possibility, thanks Patti, can always count on you... _________________

Well Eric tomorrow is MY bday too....
Jim always makes me a stuffed steak...he sautes mushrooms adds some beef broth and cornstarch to thicken it, just a touch of liquid smoke if you have it. Then he sautes onions and splits the steak and stuffs it with the mushrooms and onions. Then grills it. Sooooo good and it would go along with what Patti suggested (I like the gruyere potato idea too) She'll think you're a chef geeeenius (which of course, you are)
Don't forget the red wine, a full bodied one, oak finish (provided she likes wine of course) and......don't forget the flowers! Oh and one more thing, if you don't get a sitter....send the kids to bed early |

That sounds great too, and pretty unique! What cut does he use, ribeye? About the sitter/kids.........ah, forget it, tough to explain, haha. _________________

He usually uses a thick cut ribeye, so he can cut in the pocket and stuff it. I generally like a sirloin cut but for this, I prefer the ribeye too.
As for the sitter....we rarely had sitters too, so I know what you mean. Plus I think your son is probably at the age where he doesn't "need" (or thinks he needs) a sitter??? Well heck, just do what we do and tell them mom and dad are having a "date" nite. Send them off to watch movies or play video games or something.
Of course the girls are all teenagers now so all we have to do is tell them mom and dad wanna "make out" and that sends them running and screaming "EWWWWWWWEEEE" LOL |

I'll take it under advisement DD. Now she tells me she feels bloated and doesn't want a big meal, lol. I'm sure she'll change her mind by afternoon.
Now.......who here's gonna help to remind me to pick her up something on the way home!??!? _________________
