Whew, finally finished the b-day cake for my daughter Jess. It's her 18th b-day tomorrow! White cake with cherry buttercreme filling and fondant icing. I wanted to take pics of the whole construction process, but my digital camera batteries crapped out. Had to keep a move on, then took more pics when finished.

Here is the beginning construction...boy was I nervous! It was a 9x13 square pan, cut into 4 sections (hind sight, I could have done 3) Used 3 bamboo skewers for support.

Here's the finished cake. It took me three attempts to accomplish the handle. I did insert a thin wire and made it thicker on the last attempt, let it dry overnite. The faux "stitching" was done with a sewing pattern transfer wheel.

The lipstick & cap, makeup brush, and compact are all made out of fondant. I had made the "mirror" out of fondant and it didn't look quite right so I added the aluminum foil. With the exception of the wire in the handle and the aluminum foil it is all edible. Funny, when Jim saw some of the items on the tray drying he asked, "what did you use the makeup brush for?" he thought it was real! hehehehehe

Here is the happy b-day girl....isn't she gorgeous, worth every second of making that damn cake! LOL

Dd, another amazing creation!! Your daughter is beautiful, I am sure she was very pleased with the cake you made for her. I had to do a triple take on that brush, they all look real, but the brush is very real looking.
