I know that when I start my spring cleaning, I also (fortunately or unfortunately) try to add more "stuff" back into the apartment to feel refreshed -- usually buy a new pair of sheets, some flowers once in awhile, maybe a couple of new dishes (bc there's only 2 of us and we have a small kitchen so I can't go TOO overboard!)

I'd love to find a way to get curtains into our bedroom windows, I think the cement is too hard for us to drill through (we tried with NO luck whatsoever.)

Looking for some inspiration. I noticed a lot of you have also been painting - a thought but kind of hard in a rental...(and Jedd is opposed...we've been talking about it since we moved in 2 years ago! lol)

Other ways to "spring" up/freshen up a room?

Green up the fridge with a case of MC? Smile

If you need, I have a drill and bits that penetrate cement.

you can put curtains in between the inside walls of the windows I think with one of those rods that have a spring in it. Maybe that's ghetto but it's an idea.

Go to home goods! They have lots of pretty things. Buy a pretty platter for all your beautiful cakes.

Oooh or candles...in some pretty spring/summer scents.

I agree with Michele on the tension rod...especially since you said it was a rental, you can't do too much experimenting. Candles are good. I rent too so I am putting up alot of pictures of family/friends. I have been priting up pictures in black and white and framing them.

Tension rod...ugh...the word was at the tip of my tongue!

I love pictures too. I have lots of pics around but need more. I like wood frames so I need to get ones that match.

I was just going to say that. I have a home office where I have a build in area that is my [cough] storage... it's full. I just don't have the time to do something formal so I just put up a curtain rod and put some nice curtains up.. you can't see the rod with the curtains.. got the velvet ones from bed bath and beyond (which by the way.. save those coupons.. they never expire! and you can use them all at once.. ) Plus.. it's a cheap fix. Until you own, don't invest in major changes...

Jules, I don't know if you have wall space in your kitchen (I know it's small) but you could take some of your beautiful foodie pics, matt and frame them.

I'm not a decorator but.....choose one new color then add it in at least three things in the room, i.e, curtains, pillows and maybe a vase or deco plate on a stand. (space them out in the room)

I TTA with others on the spring rod idea. There are cement drill bits...but NOT a good idea in a rental. Curtains would make a huge difference and a chance to add a lot of color. (even if they are small windows)

Also, not sure if you're a "pillow" person, but just changing out pillows can sometimes change the total look of a decor. Or even just add another punch of color.

What colors do you currently have in the space? (couch, chair, carpet, wood colors, metal etc.) Do you have any large rugs? Rugs are a bit more of an investment but can help "pull" colors together that normally wouldn't look right (did that make sense? lol)

Great advice!

Jules, I think you said something about black and white photos? Well if I'm not totally making that up...lol...you could add some red here and there. I see it done on some design shows and it looks great. It's a modern look if you're into that. It's funny, I don't mind when other people have a contemporary style in their homes. I think it's nice but it's so not me that I would never do it. I don't like it enough I guess. I'm very traditional. I love neutrals and wood.

I bought two brushed steel tension rods at BBB today, as well as two white linen curtains with big brushed steel grommets at the top. Then I went to an arts store and purchased 2 yards of this pretty black and white floral ribbon to use as ties for the curtains. Looks really cute! But makes me realize how much CREAM color we have -- the white looks nice bc we have some white furniture, but we need a little more color. the bedspread is blue and we have a black bench. I think some pillows will be a good touch. Oh yeah, and it will help when it's cleaned up a bit Smile
