OK.. so some of you might have seen our latest contest being advertised on the site...well, it technically is still being set up. I've noticed a few recipes already being added - I thought some of them were a mistake so I deleted the category from them. Therefore, if you find that your recipe is not in the "nothing like the holiday" category .. just go back and edit it.. add the category and it will be all good! Sorry about that. I didn't realize they were real! HHAHAH OOps. It's been a long year.
Anyhow, you can start uploading recipes, but the official announcement won't start until tomorrow. Here's the promo page... http://www.bakespace.com/recipes/nothingliketheholidays/
YOU MUST ADD A FAMILY PHOTO TO THE RECIPE FOR IT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE JUDGING...
From November 24th – December 12th, you can win some cool swag from the film just for uploading your favorite family recipes to the "Nothing Like the Holidays" category in BakeSpace’s recipe database.
Yes, you can go back to old recipes and add the "nothing like the holiday" category AND subcategories to the giveaway.. just make sure you have a family photo uploaded for the photo.

So there will be pictures of people instead of food with the recipes? _________________ ~Marguerite

Hmm... I'm always disappointed to see a picture of something other than the recipe attached to a recipe. _________________ ~Marguerite

You'd be disappointed to see a recipe with the real family who loves it? Why so? You can always go back and add a photo of the recipe later.. it's more about the spirit of family.. why these are your family favorites. Putting a real face to the family is about showing this is a real tried and true recipe. We hope you participate.. . |

I had a feeling that would be your response. When I'm just scrolling through recipes, I 'see' the one with pics of the food more than the ones without pics or with pics of people... or pets... or a 'theme' ingredient as the pic. A pic of the food illustrates 'tried and true' to me. That's why so many recipe magazines boast 'picture of every recipe'. If I haven't made it before, I like to know what the finished recipe should look like. If there was an option for more than one pic, I'd enjoy seeing the family that enjoys the recipe. But I'll be disappointed and distracted if the featured recipes on the recipe page become people. I often sit and refresh that page, not looking at the recipe titles, but at the pictures of the food and clicking the pictures that look like I 'have' to try that whatever picture caught my eye. After I see the picture of the food, I do love to read the back story... and if there could be a pic in the back story, I'd love to see the families there... but unfortunately, pics of people aren't what make me look at a recipe.
I do hope people enjoy the contest... but I also hope the featured recipe section doesn't become clogged with pics of people. _________________ ~Marguerite

You know me well. Love your new avatar!
The good news is that the featured section on the home page is actually calling from all the recipes on the site - so it's almost 40,000 to choose from so we should be ok. The contest/giveaway is mostly for fun.. and it's a way for bakespace to stay alive and get sponsorships.. hint hint.. so upload one recipe and play along so we can keep the lights on and the heater going through the cold winter... Pretty please..
OK.. how about this.. sneak preview to the next giveaway...
If you join the movie's list of friends and post a comment on their profile .. I'll give away some cookbooks. I'll post next week the cookbooks in the daily newsletter. http://www.bakespace.com/?nothingliketheholidays |

Ok--I really tried to get a family photo to upload with my "Nothing Like the Holidays" recipe, but at my house that got a little too complicated. All I asked for was a quick picture---smile at the camera:
But, noooo. Noone could stop eating long enough to help me out! Let's try again:
OK--forget the people. Let's get a cute shot of the dog trying to nose in on the plate of turkey:
Dang! Where did she go? Oh, there she is on the other side of the table!
I give up! I'm better at food pictures...... _________________ Cathy
