While I'm here I might as well start a new topic. I am a little bit neurotic today because my prep for Chtistmas is going to be all last minute, and I am one who likes to plan well ahead. As Vicki knows, I am in a wheelchair and so I am to a large extent dependent on help from my caregivers to get everything done. I have two wonderful ladies helping me, Olivia and Evelyn, but there is such a lot to be done between now and the weekend! A serious spring cleaning, getting rid of the plague of cockroaches that has come with the heatwave, and all the shopping and cooking for the weekend. And clearing out the refrigerator for all the new Christmas stuff to go in instead. Well, I will do as much as I can, together with Evelyn and Olivia, and the rest with God's help!

Good Morning, Tjaart!
We are getting ready for Christmas a little slower that usual. Today, I have done a little cleaning and in a few minutes I'll get that cranberry cake in the oven.

In the next day or two I hope to get my refrigerator cleaned, too (with my husband's assistance).

Glad to see you here, Tjaart.
Vicki

GOOD MORNING Tjaart , Vicki and ALL who stop in....Good to see you post again Tjaart. Evidentlly you all celebrate Christmas the same as America. That's interesting to know, some countries celebrate differently. I understand , when you say you are dependent on others for help doing things. I'm not wheel-chair bound as of yet , but I see it in my near future. I have a lot of trouble walking and when I'm out shopping,I use the motorized charts if the store has them. Good luck with getting your big list of things done before Christmas. I'm sure with Olivia and Evelya help you'll be fine. I'm going to help my DD (darling daughter) with her CHRISTMAS dinner ...this will be her first one...she's only been married for a year now..but has turned out to be a very good cook. We have a pretty big menu planned, so I'm hoping to get everything that I can do early done by Saturday at the latest.

Hi Vicki and everybody else - at least I got some cookie baking done today - tomorrow will be all cleaning up, but in the afternoon I go to the local hospice bookshop to see if I can pick up some bargain cookbooks to replace at least some of what i had before 2002. I had a huge crisis and was very ill, so I thought I was going to die and gave all my books away, including my cookery collection which I had built up since 1964! Now, of course, I can kick myself! Maybe I can pick up some of the basics again , like Julia Child and Elizabeth David and Jane Grigson. And Claudia Roden's Middle Eastern Cooking.
Tell Vicki - how have your experiments with cornmeal gone so far - or are you still waiting to start?

Tjaart,
I haven't made anything with cornmeal other than cornbread and cornbread muffins, which has hardly made a dent in all the cornmeal and cornmeal mix. I may have to wait until either next week or the following.

Hope to catch you tomorrow,
Vicki

Just wanted to stop by and say hello to you and see how you are doing?? I did not know you were in a wheel chair, I use to be a care giver, but quit because I got tired of people using me. I am sure your christmas dinner will be fantastic!!!! I really love talking to you in the tea room. Fell free to e-mail me any time. Love getting hints about cooking from you. God Bless you my friend. Bakerfreek

Hello Tjaart, I am looking forward to getting to know you better here. I did not know you were in a wheelchair either. I am not confined to a wheelchair but was disabled in a car accident and have difficulties doing a lot of things, but am very grateful for all that I CAN do. I am looking forward to learning about your country also. I am so sorry about your cookbooks being gone. I know how much mine mean to me. I hope you have an easy time getting ready for the holidays.
