I have relatives that live in trailers in the middle of a field so its all good!! My brother use to catch bullfrogs and fry up their legs over an open fire in the woods behind the house. my great grandmother didnt have running water in her house and didnt want it. granddaddy forced her to have electricity installed. even though im from california, when i go back to alabama to visit, i'm constantly asked if im a Yankee! Uhm, yeah, I can relate.
One of my "kin folk" down in Scottsville had running water.....you poured it down the sink and it "went running down the hill". (they thought this was funny)
When I asked why they had a "sink" with a "faucet" (neither of which worked, you still had to "fetch" water from the well), her reply was, "the sink is fer doin' the dishes sos I don't hav ta use the drinkin' pale". "And the faucet?", I asked....."'cuz it looks purdy". (seriously, true story)
BTW, "you'ins can take yor bath down thar in the crick".
Of course, this was like over 20 years ago......haven't been back since, I often wonder if they ever did hook up that faucet and "git runnin' water".??? |
