Danielle, I just opened a Columbia Crest Grand Estates last night!! It's my first time trying it. I'm going to do the "2nd night" tasting & thoughts tonight...funny. At the moment I'm still kind of in the air about it. _________________ http://girlichef.blogspot.com/

I might be jumping in here this time since I love Merlot........................... my daughter is in California right now and will be going to Napa, so when she gets back she can help me with the taste testing. She introduced us to Clos Du Bois when she graduated from college and we have been drinking it ever since. Danny and I went to their winery in Sonoma a couple of years ago and joined their wine club. _________________ Karen

Name: Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot (Washington)
year: 2006
price: $10.99 -on sale for $7.68
Winemaker Intro: ...created with an artisan winemaking approach. During harvest, a third of the fruit from the vineyards for this Merlot is not crushed. The whole berries are added to the wine during fermentation to create a unique aromatic and favorful style with a soft texture.
review: Okay, the first day I thought it tasted coppery with a sort of smokey undertone. It was very strong and didn't feel very rounded. After letting it sit a day I found that I enjoyed it more. It still had a slightly coppery or metallic underlying flavor, but it tasty brighter, of blackberries...and it was smoother and even a bit mellow. Definitely opened up and felt more rounded the second day.
buy again: yes, I think I would...but I'd open it a day before I wanted to drink it.
Pairing: I'm dreaming of some nice, fall apart lamb shanks or some coq au vin. Maybe a steak with some bold cheese and potatoes. Yum! _________________ http://girlichef.blogspot.com/

Welcome welcome new members (thanks girlichef for putting us out there) And by all means, BQ and Karen jump on in! I'm so glad we're growing, it's getting exciting! As you can see, it's a very relaxed style here, but at the same time, don't be affraid to give us your "experienced" wine reviews. It's all good
I think I'll be picking up a few tonight to try out. woooohooooo! wine nite! Have to pick up a new router as well, but I better get the router going first LOL
Also, I need to ask,
Is there anyone that has won in the last few months that is waiting on their penguin cork screw? (Danielle, Bob?) Please pm me and let me know. Babs has two left and can't remember if she's sent all of the ones out she was supposed to. Thanks! |

Sweet! Merlot is my favorite red. In fact, I think I have some reviews for ones that I've drank over the last couple months sitting around... _________________ Cooking Stuff

Ok, looks like Spryte and Bob are getting the last two penguin cork screws that are left. (sorry girlichef ) I'm sure she'll have prizes down the road here and there for us. (I wonder how well decanters and glasses would ship? ooooooo, or wine stoppers ya can't have enough of those I say, hint hint Babs LOL)
Spryte and Bob, you guys be sure to pm her with your mailing addys, she's expecting them. They are awesome, you're gonna love them I swear!
Dani- I'm so gonna try. I've been offline because my router got zapped. Obviously my modems working tho, so that's good. So I have to play IT person today and get the home network back up and running. After all of that, HELL YA I'm gonna neeeeeeeeed some wine! HA! |
