LOL Heather, I know right? I feel like we're the "poor kids" in class that only have the generic notebooks while everyone else has the cool trapper keepers hahahahahhahahah |

August Wine Tasting. Finally a wine tasting party that I liked... I liked the party not the wine. Not that I don't like my parties... but last month's wine tasting (which I still haven't posted about) just wasn't a favorite. Dessert wines aren't my thing and I think I'd much rather make (and eat) food food than dessert food!
So... we have the usual tasters.
Here's Me & Jon
Ericka & Drew
Whitney & Jeff
For this Wine Tasting I made a fruit plate with apple slices, nectarine slices, red grapes, cantaloupe, blackberries and raspberries; a cheese plate with a few goudas, Beemster Classic and Vlaskaas, DaVinci Garlic Herb Gouda, Chavarie Goat Cheese and a Gorgonzola spread, with crostini; mixed Olives; Lobster Rolls and Mini Cheesecakes.
First wine up was Anselmi San Vincenzo. The guy at the wine store suggested it, and it wasn't expensive so I picked it up.
Name: Anselmi San Vincenzo
Region: Veneto Soave
Price: around $13.00
Year: 2007
PHOTO of bottle:
Short intro from the wine maker about the wine:
Color
Light straw
Bouquet
Crisp and pure, with scents of minerals, apple, banana and lemon blossoms
Taste
Medium-bodied, dry and fresh, with notes of citrus fruit, pear, grapefruit and hints of hazelnut
Reviews:
Marguerite ~ Half squinchy eye. YUCK. It did taste sweeter after Lobster Roll and was much nicer with nectarine... but SUPER YUCK after gouda... my tongue was tingly after having it with Olives and it was just gross with all of the cheeses.
Jon ~ has the pee smell... or BO.. tastes good
Ericka ~ not bad... dry - grapefruit smell... kinda bitter
Drew ~ like Chardonnay... nice wine for wicked old ladies (wicked old like very old... not evil)
Whitney ~ non-descript... lighter after nectarine
Jeff ~ UNsweet
Would you buy again?: It's unlikely... mostly because I cook with Chardonnay
Wine Pairing Ideas/Recipes: nope... I'm bad at this part!

Brought by Ericka & Drew...
Name: Folonari Soave
Region: Soave
Price: I think this was around $13 too... for the 1.5 liter bottle
Year: 2006
PHOTO of bottle:
Short intro from the wine maker about the wine:
Served chilled, the clean fresh taste of this outstandingly dry, smooth Folonari Soave is a perfect complement to all fish, seafood, chicken, turkey and veal dishes. It is delightful as a light aperitif.
Reviews:
Marguerite ~ milder than Anselmi - no squinchy face.. tongue a little puckery... Yuck after nectarine and yuck after gouda
Jon ~ funky smell... good after apples and with chocolate.
Ericka ~ agrees... funky smell... less bitter than Anselmi
Drew ~ it's good - would be great outside, under a tree after having worn a hat... a post hat wearing wine
Whitney ~ more dry... likes Anselmi better... this has more of an after taste.
Jeff ~ bad medicine...
Would you buy again?: It's unlikely... mostly because I cook with Chardonnay
Wine Pairing Ideas/Recipes: nope... I'm bad at this part!

And Whitney & Jeff's selection...
Name: Allegrini Soave
Region: Veneto Soave
Price: I think around $13.00 too
Year: 2006
PHOTO of bottle:
Short intro from the wine maker about the wine:Bright straw yellow in color, Allegrini Soave offers a fresh bouquet of herbs and flowers on the nose. The crisp, citrus aroma lingers on the palate and is framed by great acidity and minerality. Recommended with fish dishes, risotto, and poultry.
A blend of 80% Garganega – an indigenous grape - and 20% Chardonnay, hand harvested between late September and October from 25 year old vines. Allegrini uses the cold-maceration technique to pursue fuller flavor extraction from the skins, giving the wine a rounder body and longer aging ability. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and integrity of its fruit aromas, Allegrini Soave is refined in bottle for two months and is ready to be enjoyed upon release.
Reviews:
Marguerite ~ more squinchy... yuck!
Jon ~ funky smell... fruitier
Ericka ~ smells like pear... more puckery than Folinari... less bitter than Anselmi... not a fan of Soave... Something that would be served at a work function as the white wine option.
Jeff ~ like a Lemon-Head that fell in a shoe
Would you buy again?: It's unlikely... mostly because I cook with Chardonnay
Wine Pairing Ideas/Recipes: nope... I'm bad at this part!
Just some more pics...
