Hey guys...what do you do about holiday foods and blogging? I mean, I love seeing recipes before the holidays in order to give me ideas, right? But I have a slight dilemma. There are a couple of recipes I want to blog about...but I don't think I want to really make them ahead of time and then have to make them again for Thanksgiving.... but I'd love to be able to share before the holidays so others can make it if they want.
One of the things I want to blog is the Pumpkin Mousse Roll. and the other is a wonderful Pumpkin Cheesecake. Do you think they'd freeze well?
Are any of you going to blog about holidays menu items? _________________ Danielle

Unfortunately, for first year bloggers... either you have to make it ahead of time... or just blog it after... next year you can pull up the past "holiday" recipes... then add your new ones.... _________________ ~Marguerite

I've been thining about it, too! In the past I have posted recipes, because it's only in the last year that I really started taking photos of what I cook. I wish I had done it before! I only have photos of a few holiday things. I think I will probably taking a few basic recipes (like desserts and side dishes I have made before, but not for holidays) and posting a sort of "collection" for ideas.
I think you should be fine freezing a cheesecake, but I don't know about the mousse roll. Is it a cake with mousse? I worry about changes in texture once it defrosts. _________________ Joanna

Excellent point Danielle, I thought about this myself. More because my nieces have all started reading my blog, and so for them, they need help with the basic stuff and I just feel like everyone elses blogs are about different or advanced stuff ya know? So I dunno, I have started tagging stuff with the specific holiday, like Spryte said, do it now and just look them up next year?
Oh, and as for the pumpkin roll, I think it would freeze well. I don't think it would change the texture too much at all. I would roll it a few times in plastic wrap, then put it in a zip lock bag and get the air out. It should be fine. In fact, I was thinking of doing that myself. (too bad we won't know until T-day LOL) _________________ ~ddpie~

Dani - I have the same dilemma. As far as your pumpkin roll goes. I'm pretty sure I made it and froze it last year. I really, think I did. I know that a few of us have made it. Maybe you want to borrow our photos and then when you make yours change the photo to your own? I guess that may be weird but it's an option. lol _________________ MICHELE

Michele - thats such a sweet offer ...I did make it last year and took a finished photo but I didn't take pictures for the process since I made it before I started blogging. Not to mention that hopefully I'm better at taking pictures then I was a year ago LOL.
Well, I'll probably make it and then freeze it. At least for the desserts. The rest of the stuff...I'm not good at planning a whole year in advance LOL
DD - as for your nieces, I have lots of easy recipes on my blog if you wanna send 'em my way
jm - I think a lot of my side dishes are also sides for my Christmas meal, so hopefully I can just make them for Turkey Day and post them for Christmas _________________ Danielle

Danielle, I already have! Well I told Jamie (our oldest) and one of my nieces, Amber, about you being the "chicken queen", since they both totally dig chicken. I will remind them tho! _________________ ~ddpie~
