My son wants a pan to use on the stovetop as well as in the oven. I spotted this combo cooker (3 qt. Dutch oven and 10-1/4 inch skillet) on Amazon. What do you think? Is this a good idea?

Here is the description:

it looks like a GREAT idea!! Seriously...I'd personally love to have that combo. Of course I happen to be a huge fan of cast iron Cool

I have already given him a stock pot (8 quarts), so I thought the smaller Dutch oven/frying pan combination would be perfect.

Vicki, I think it's an excellent idea to buy him such a combo. Since he already has a big Dutch oven, a smaller sized one with a skillet is a superb addition

I love it! I actually have something like it...it's a chicken fryer (that's what Mom called it but it looks just like what you have pictured) with a lid that is also a skillet. It belonged to my mother (my great-grandmother was the original owner) and she used the chicken fryer part to make the best Pineapple Upsidedown cakes. Maybe you can get your son to learn how to make one of those for you in his new skillet. Laughing

Oh, thank you, Patti and Sheryle! I liked the pan set ("pros"), but did not know if there were any "cons" against the idea. Eric will be thrilled to use it to make his favorite pot roast. Smile

With 4 votes FOR, and 0 votes AGAINST... it's a GO! Very Happy

That is not only an awesome piece of cookware, but can be used as a weapon in a pinch! LOL

I am jealous, cause I can't use any of mine right now... Flat cooktops are a problem because all my cast iron has a ridge on the bottom that won't allow the pot to make full contact with the burner... Total bummer... I miss my cast iron.
