With the news of increased prices of flour, sugar, peanut butter, peanuts, etc..., are you stockpiling any of these or other ingredients?
I purchased extra flour, sugar, peanut butter, and peanuts at Costco this morning. The cashier said peanut butter is flying out the door, but has not heard of any Costco price changes. However, my daughter said there are already signs noting shortages in local supermarkets.

Vicki:
Thanks for the heads up. I have a ton of sugar but I think I will stock up on AP Flour & Bread Flour. Also peanut butter, don't eat as much of this as when dh was here but have just found a couple recipes for PB cookies(no bake) I want to try.

I heard about the peanut butter. I picked up two big jars while I was at Sam's today. We don't eat much of it, but I like to have it around for cookies, fudge and pie. I should probably stock up on flour and sugar too. _________________ Sheryle

Good evening everyone,
Vicki I promised you that I would stick my head in Bakespace forum tonight .
To answer your question about stocking up, you have to see Kathie's sewing room which is also known as the Costco mini warehouse. The reason why we call it the Costco mini warehouse, because we purchase most of our groceries at Costco. We always stock up on items that we use on a regular basis when Costco has coupons for them. For example in the newest coupon booklet they have a $3.00 off coupon for 72 ounce bags of chocolate morsels limit 2 per coupon, so we asked our friends if we can have their coupon if they don't use it. Last time Costco had a coupon for chocolate morsels we were able to purchase 12 bags. Peanut butter is another item we use regulary making peanut butter cookies and peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips. Right now we are down to six 48 ounce jars.
Have a Super Evening!
Aloha ke Akua,
Axel & Kathie

Hi Babette,
The reason why I haven't been participating in the Bakespace forum lately because of family emergencies. Don't worry, everything is ok with Kathie and me, but Kathie's sister has grave medical challenges. In fact Kathie's brother Steve came down two weeks ago from Seattle. On a happier note their restaurant, Village Eatery and Tea Company at the Bothell Country Village in Bothell, Washington is doing great. They even had customers from Canada who liked their High Tea better than the one at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC. http://www.VillageEateryandTeaCompany.com
Have a Super Day!
Aloha ke Akua,
Axel & Kathie

Hi Axel, long time no see!
About this time of year, I always start stocking up on sugar (white, brown and powdered), flour, butter (it freezes great), walnuts and almonds so I won't run out when I am in "full-Christmas-cookie-mode". It also helps financially to buy that stuff a bag at a time instead of all at once when you're ready to start baking.
And last year all the stores ran out of canned pumpkin... so I'm buying enough now for Thanksgiving and Christmas. _________________ -----Martha |
