My Bread Corner
Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I take such joy out of the activity of baking and sharing bread, and this would be a way to expand the joy.
What inspires me in this category:
Bread is a mainstay of any diet, and to stay motivated to eat healthy and limit portions, I believe it is necessary for food to also taste very good.
I have been baking yeasted bread since the age of 12, and I am now 56. Every time I have lived or traveled in Europe, I have become more inspired to improve my breads. My family generally chooses bread that is either homemade or artisan quality, because we just can't bear to settle for less.
Biggest Lesson Learned:
Most people like bread, and most will adore it if it is homebaked, which is not all that hard to do. It is not at all expensive, but creates a sense of abundance when incorporated in a party or any meal. The variety possible is limitless.
Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
Beard, Child, Silverton, Malgieri are authors I have studied and thoroughly enjoyed learning from. I am a home cook to the core, and have never had a class beyond one at the local culinary supply store.
- It only takes as much time as you want to spend to make very good bread daily.
