My Bread Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I love to teach and I love to bake, sounds like a great combination. I have good cooking instincts as well.

What inspires me in this category:
Who doesn't love fresh baked bread, straight from the oven?

Experience:
I have been making bread since I was a teen. For the past three years, I have made bread for my family on a weekly basis. I don't buy store bought bread anymore.

Biggest Lesson Learned:
Baking bread is time consuming but overall, not complicated. A few simple ingredients make a staple of society.

Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
My mom taught me how to bake, but mostly I am self-taught; experience and mistakes have been the best teachers. My "go to" recipe is based off recipe in a cookbook by Vicki Lansky, "Feed Me I'm Yours"

Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
I don't have any formal training, but I have been baking most of my life. I have actually taught people in my home how to make bread. I make bread every week for my family and have learned by doing.

My Tips:

  • It is so cliche, but it is true. Use quality ingredients, it makes a difference.

My Biscuit Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I have learned from trial and error what works with biscuits. And I'm a Southerner...I know biscuits!

What inspires me in this category:
There is nothing more satisfying that pulling fresh baked biscuits from the oven.

Experience:
I make biscuits from scratch all the time.

Biggest Lesson Learned:
Biscuit ingredients are basically the same, but it is the technique that is the key.

Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
My Mom and again, lots of practice.

Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
Practice, practice, practice

My Tips:

  • There is no good substitute for buttermilk
