SINGLESERVING'S MENTOR PROFILE
My Cooking for One Corner
Why I want to be mentor in this category:
Because I live in LA & have been single for 9 years & l LOVE comforting Caribbean food (basically non existent being that the Caribbean is 3,000 miles away) & fine dining but I love spending my hard earned money on shoes more, so I definitely am an expert in this category!
What inspires me in this category:
My Grandmother is my greatest inspiration as far as love of cooking and entertaining, because no matter what time of the day it was or how many people showed up unannounced she always had a meal ready for you. I never grew up with a Grandfather so she's my ULTIMATE cool single chick! Babette Pepaj from Bakespace has been my biggest inspiration from & into the foodie world. I don't know how she does it all?
I've been a happily Single girl for years! Although I LOVE entertaining guests I also love the freedom & the joy of cooking for myself. It's the one thing that I can work hard on & put my heart into & immediately enjoy the rewards of my labor. Cooking is also my "zen place", the only place where I don't think I just am.
Biggest Lesson Learned:
The cupcake/muffin tin, fresh organic ingredients, ziploc bags & the freezer are my BEST FRIENDS! Perfect single servings of so many of my favorites I can eat now & freeze for later. It also comes in SUPER handy when I have last minute guests, I just pop in the oven or microwave & my guests can enjoy one of my home cooked meals in a matter of minutes.
Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
My Grandmother! I collect William Sonoma books, haven't made any recipes from any of them yet but I LOVE the pics & the inspiration. I also collect books from the "Love Food" line of publications from Parragon Books. They are so comforting & inviting, I love the puffy ones & the pics are always fantastic!
Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
I have Produced and shot my own cooking show on this very subject I am pitching to Networks.
- Just because you are living alone doesn't mean you have to eat like you are "ALONE", you know those lonely people who battle it by eating at drive throughs & overly processed foods. CELEBRATE your choice of the fabulous single life! Choose GREAT food!
