Why I want to be mentor in this category:
Mentorship is a central part of how food recipes and skills are passed down in my culture, and I always like to help people out who are interested in learning how to cook authentic Mexican food.
What inspires me in this category:
This food is life.
Experience:
I learned how to make Spanish rice before I started kindergarten!
Biggest Lesson Learned:
Sometimes, higher heat does make better food, and don't be afraid to salt your dishes.
Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
Rick Bayless and Diana Kennedy are really helpful for specific recipes or variations, but my mother, aunts, and grandmothers have been the most formative.
Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
First-generation Mexican-American; my family cooks central-Mexico regional food.
My Tips:
- If you don't have ingredients locally, purchase dry goods online and consider growing spices and herbs on your own.
