JULIE.A.DEHART'S MENTOR PROFILE
My Dinner Corner
Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I want to be a mentor because I hope I have something to offer others who want to embrace being a great home manager and home cook. I truly believe you can make great meals for your family that are easy and sooo yummy.
What inspires me in this category:
There are actually many categories that inspire me, and I feel I have something to offer in Holiday baking/cooking, entertaining, parties and timing of meals, meal planning, and easy recipes for all courses.
I have learned about cooking, planning meals and organizing a home from instinct and life experience. I am a mother of 5 and have been a dorm mom to 16 high school boys; running a household and kitchen for 23. I love entertaining and creating great easy meals for my family and friends. I am into simple, yet delicious. I have a system to entertaining which makes it easy and enjoyable. I am eager to help others in making great easy meals for their family.
Biggest Lesson Learned:
I have learned to embrace cooking or baking from scratch. We are missionaries living in the Philippines and there are no convenience items available, so I have had to cook from scratch for the last 10 years. It's actually not hard at all!
Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
Life experience has been my teacher.
Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
Formally, I have a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. I have never taken a culinary course, but study cookbooks, recipes and techniques. When we return to the states in 2 years, I am eager to take a 2 year course in the culinary arts. I have 26 years of life experience in cooking and baking. I have a crazy passion for recipes, cookbooks and all things related to cooking.
- My greatest tip came from my 7th grade home economics teacher. It was to clean as you go. Picking up and cleaning as you go in the kitchen or in your home will make life more simple and efficient.
