My Soup Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
Its always important to share the lessons you've learned!!

What inspires me in this category:
Nothing is more comforting or individual than a bowl of homemade soup.

Experience:
My family owned a restaurant, and for a year or so, I was in charge of making the soup. We had a huge lunch crowd and our home made soup was a big seller!

Biggest Lesson Learned:
Really burnt soup can't be saved.

Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
See experience!

My Tips:

  • Soup is a great way to use up left overs! We had a turkey dinner special, and had left over mashed potatoes and stuffing. The resulting Turkey soup was heavenly!
  • If you just barely start to scorch a pot of soup when its almost done, turn down the heat and make sure not to scratch the bottom when you stir.

My Bath/Beauty Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I love to share what I've learned!

What inspires me in this category:
Save money, and make something that works great!

Experience:
I make scrubs and masks from things in your refrigerator and pantry.

Biggest Lesson Learned:
Vegetable oil is more oily than olive oil on your skin!

Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
Web searches and trial and error.

My Tips:

  • If your skin is normal, try to balance out the ph of the product. Lemon juice, vinegar, sour cream are acidic while eggs, baking soda are more alkaline

My Beef Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
Its important to share what you know!

Experience:
I've made lots of pot roasts, hamburgers, caseroles and an occasional steak.

Biggest Lesson Learned:
Green is not good!! Beef is sensitive. It becomes tougher with extra handling.

Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
10 years in a restaurant.

My Tips:

  • Always use a meat thermometer when making a roast! And don't cook it too high! Its juicier if cooked at a lower temp.
  • Don't Kneed meatloaf! Put all the ingredients in, THEN mix till its just mixed. Too much handling is what makes it tough.
  • Try to only flip a hamburger or steak once.

My Fruit Bread Corner

Why I want to be mentor in this category:
To share what I've learned!

What inspires me in this category:
I love fruit bread and tea as an afternoon snack!

Experience:
I've played around with fruit bread recipes a fair amount!

Biggest Lesson Learned:
This is a quick bread. That means you shouldn't mix it and then go talk on the phone 20 minutes before you put it in!

My Tips:

  • The recipes use either baking powder or baking soda. If it uses baking soda, an acidic ingredient must be used for it to react with and start to bubble and rise.
  • Applesauce can be used to cut the amount of butter/oil used.
  • Acidic ingredients can include applesauce, sour cream, lemon juice, orange juice and cream of tartar.
