Why I want to be mentor in this category:
I would like to mentor in this category because I have a great deal of experience in baking and decorating cakes and I feel that cooks who shy away from baking shouldn't be afraid. It may require a bit more preparation and patience, but it's fun and isn't difficult to learn with the right help.
What inspires me in this category:
What has inspired me about cakes is that ever since I was young the baking in our house has been handled by me. Since then, I have learned many techniques and tips that have made me improve my cake baking and decorating skills.
Experience:
I have been cooking and baking since the age of 6. My mom is not a baker at all. Up until the age of 6, I was eating burnt cookies. Now, I do all of the baking in my house and I have a great deal of experience baking cookies and cakes
Biggest Lesson Learned:
Always sift ingredients when baking a cake, so it comes out lighter and the ingredients become well incorporated
Books, classes, teachers that have helped me:
I have read several cookbooks that have helped me master cake baking and decorating. No one in my family has baked a day in their life, and if they have, the results were not pretty. As a child, I was inspired to prove that my family was not blessed with only cooking skills, but it was blessed with baking skills as well.
Education, Awards, Pro Experience:
I have been baking since a very young age and I receive several e-mails daily asking for my baking advice. I have no formal training in anything, but for the past 11 years of my life, baking has been one of the best things that has happened to me
My Tips:
- Always use unsalted butter when baking!
- Always sift your ingredients for a lighter and airier cake
- Always pre-heat your oven at least 10 minutes before you begin baking
- Always measure your ingredients accurately
