CookinMommaOfThree

central Arkansas

Mentor In: Bread, Biscuit

Why I want to be mentor: I love to teach and I love to bake, sounds like a great combination. I have good cooking instincts as well.

Lesson Learned: Baking bread is time consuming but overall, not complicated. A few simple ingredients make a staple of society.

Tip: It is so cliche, but it is true. Use quality ingredients, it makes a difference.

ddpie

Indianapolis, IN

Mentor In: Fondant, Bread, Cake

Why I want to be mentor: I'd love to help others realize that baking yeast breads from scratch (and by hand vs a bread machine) isn't nearly as difficult as one might think.

Lesson Learned: If you don't regularly "feed" your sourdough starter it will surely die! :(

Tip: For an italian chewy/crispy type crust, periodically spray walls of oven with a water bottle while baking loaves.

Galley Wench

West Coast of Mexico or The Mountains of Arizona

Mentor In: Bread

Why I want to be mentor: To share my knowledge with others!

Lesson Learned: Sourdough is like a pet, it needs to be feed regularly and it\'s home needs to be kept clean!

Tip: I'm a purest when it comes to Sourdough Starters and would NEVER use commercial yeast!

gluten free baker

Mentor In: Bread

Why I want to be mentor: I am committed to sharing what I have learned with others in this suggestion so that they may begin eating wonderful breads.

Lesson Learned: I learned that it is possible to make gluten, dairy and egg free sourdough but that it must be treated a bit differently than wheat or rye sourdough.

Tip: It is important to feed the starter 2-3 times a day/

krashed24

Elkhart, IN

Mentor In: Bread, Poultry

Why I want to be mentor:

Lesson Learned: Baking is a science and if you don't follow the recipe exactly your results could be disappointing.

Tip: Make sure your yeast is not expired and that you use the correct temperature water. If the water is to hot you could kill the yeast and if it is to cold it could not activate it.

SkeeterJ

Aura Michigan

Mentor In: Bread

Why I want to be mentor: I have a lot of experience with breadmaking, by hand and with the breadmachine.

Lesson Learned: Bread making depends a lot on the personal touch. The humidity and temperature has a lot to do with it.

Tip: I use both powdered buttermilk and lemon juice in almost all of my recipes.
