Want to Learn How: Anything! You can never know it all...
Heard about BakeSpace From: Google
Occupation: Writer, Landscape Nursury Assistant
Industry: Agriculture
Schools: The Art Institute of Charleston (need 1 more year to finish)
Major: Culinary Arts
Cooker or Caker: Both
Bake/Cook Frequency: Every day
Baking/Cooking Training: Started with Julia Child in my living room when I was seven, and never ended. I sailed through my first year at AI of Charleston, and still have to finish my second year. Hopefully I can sell enough cookbooks to go back :)
Favorite Food: Ramen. Not the 25-cent stuff in the grocery store, but real Noodle House ramen with all the garnish. And I couldn't live without pork, or fried okra, or macaroni and cheese. Or really good biscuits...
Favorite Food Moment: Assisting pastry chef Michael Laskonis of Le Bernadin at the Bubbles & Sweets event for the Charleston wine & food festival in 2008. It was an amazing experience - I still have the business card he gave me with the invitation to stage there...and kick myself for not taking him up on it!
Favorite Cooking Word: Unctuous. (great word for pork belly's texture)
Favoriate Restaurant: Husk in Charleston, SC. Chef Sean Brock's strictly southern venture focusing on what's local and seasonal. Menu changes daily.
Favorite Chef: Tie...Sean Brock and David Chang. And my grandmother on my dad's side. She's the reason I cook, and I want to teach others.
In My Town Try: I live 40 minutes from Charleston, the best foodie destination in the south. There are far too many great places to list here. Start at McCrady's and go from there...
Interests: Other than cooking? I love to garden and sing. I love being outside - camping, fishing, hunting. Whatever gets me outdoors.
Languages: I can read a little french, and understand VERY limited Japanese
Books: Anything by Michael Pollan and Anthony Bourdain. Everyone needs a copy of "Mastering". I could read the Momofuku cookbook every day. Everyone also needs "Larousse Gastronomique" and McGee's "On Food and Cooking". I'm a big Dan Brown fan too
Music: Pretty much anything but rap, but I'll make a few exceptions. I like music I can relate to. That means Showtunes, rock, country, pop, r & b, classical. I literally mean everything. Except maybe Lil' Wayne.
TV/Movies: Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sons of Anarchy, Law and Order, 30 Rock...
Travel: I would give my right arm to go to: Thailand, Vietnam, China, New Zealand, England, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, India, Brazil, Argentina and Greece. So I'm looking to win the lottery one day...
Clubs: I really should join some and socialize a little lol
