The Sweet Taste of Victory at the Golden Globes
In most of the country “The Seasons” are marked by subtle ques from Mother Nature… a snow flake, a brown leaf, a flower bud blooming. How quaint.
In Los Angeles, where the weather is a mild 72 degrees year-round, we actually have something called “Awards Season.” How unbelievably self-serving.
Somewhere between the first nominations and the Golden Globes, Oscar buzz begins and pretty much carries us until March. It’s a bit pathetic, but a necessary evil in the entertainment capital of the world that battles runaway production daily. [If you're not familiar with the term "runaway production," it's when cities lure productions out of State by giving them deep discounted tax breaks. Boo!]
Well, last night the Golden Globes aired not once, but twice on the West Coast. Doesn’t everyone have TIVO by now?
Few things I saw that I didn’t care for:
Shoulder pads in elegant dresses. Yuck.
Men have forgotten how to tie a tie. Sad.
The “I just rolled out of bed” haircut is still popular. Meh.
But then something interesting happened. Paul Giamatti ran to the stage to accept his award for Best Actor in a Comedy and said, “I’m a little jazzed up because I just ate five boxes of Godiva chocolates.”
Nothing says I’m like you like than “I couldn’t help myself, I ate them all!”
Even Michael Y. Park over at Epicurious.com found the sweet gesture a bit unnerving and wanted to know what was in the golden box? I agree… from that moment on all I could think about was breaking into the telecast and grabbing a box.
Luckily for me, my boyfriend was already on his way to the InStyle & HBO after parties at the Beverly Hilton. He asked if I wanted to go earlier in the day… but I just wasn’t into it. But after catching a glimpse of that gold little box… I regretted my decision. So the first thing I did was text him:
“Godiva sighting at #GG. Please see what’s in box. Must know… or don’t come home. #boyfriend #fail”
OK, I made up that last part. [For the record, he's a keeper.]
Anyhow, here’s what he found:
[Warning, you may start to salivate and attempt to lick the screen. Read at your own risk.]
Godiva had a room lined with these massive chocolate flowers on the wall…
The white chocolate stars (above and to the right) are awesome! They are filled with raspberry. Absolutely perfect!
And this is what he brought home. I took this photo with my iphone, so excuse the bad composition. I knew if I broke out our Ti2, the chocolate wouldn’t last long enough to snap a shot.
So if you’re a rep from Godiva… please send me a sample of every flavor so I can stop feeling so bad about missing the party. And send one to Michael over at Epicurious.
