Why I Love This Recipe

This homemade german chocolate icing is just delicious. I always serve in on top of devils food cake mix or cupcakes. It looks and taste the best if you make a layer cake and layer with the german chocolate icing too. Always use pure vanilla extract not imitation.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 can evaporated milk
1 stick butter, salted
1 1/2 cups white sugar
4 egg yolks and whites
1 tsp. vanilla extract
pinch salt
1-2 cups coconut, flaked
1 cup pecans, chopped

Directions

Bring evaporated milk, butter, eggs, vanilla extract, salt, and sugar to a boil.

Remove from heat and add coconut and pecans.

The icing will thicken as it cools.

I spread my cakes will the icing is still a little warm but cool enough to hold shape and not drip off the cake.

Use this icing on devils food cake or cupcakes.
