Advocaat a Dutch alcoholic egg drink

Ingredients

10 egg yolks
1/2 ts salt
275 gr granulated sugar
4 dl cognac or brandy
1/2 ts vanilla essence


Beat the yolks with the salt and the sugar, until the mixture is thick and creamy.


Slowly beat in the cognac or brandy and put the mixture into a double saucepan.


Heat gently, whisking all the time until the advocaat is warm (not hot) and thick.


Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla essence.


Pour into a jug and let cool down.


Advocaat is served in a glass and eaten with a teaspoon, it can also be topped with whipped cream.

Grand Marnier uses only bitter orange peels but this is blended with cognac and sugar and then aged. Many of these triple-secs have their inevitable secret ingredients.The literature says that for curacao triple sec the orange peels should be infused in high strength alcohol and then redistilled in a pot still I would imagine. It is then blended with water, neutral spirit or cognac. Grand Marnier is further aged in oak. --------- smithsan Alcohol Rehab

Does this ever bring back memories. I went to the Netherlands one summer and the kids and I almost OD'ed on advocot ice cream. To bad someone doesn't make it here. Probably good though because I'd weigh 400 lbs if they did. Thanks for the recipe.
