ANG'S APPLE PIE RECIPE BY JAN HOLT

Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 2 1/2 cups sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 TBS flour
  • 1 1/2 TBS lemon juice (use less by half if apples are tart)
  • Single Crust:
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 TBS cold water
  • Double Crust:
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tspsalt
  • 7 TBS cold water

Directions

  • Bake at 425 F for 10 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to 325 F and bake 25 minutes more.
