Apple Strudel

"This recipe I made one of my special apple from my research!"

Serves 6 Servings | Prep Time 20 Minutes | Cook Time 30 Minutes

Ingredients

1/2 cup [ 1 stick ] unsalted butter
5 Granny smith apples cut, peeled, cored into 1/2 inch dice
1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
10 sheets 9 x 14 store bought Phyllo
vanilla ice cream, for serving


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.


In a large saute pan, melt 4 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat.


Add the apples, 1/3 cup of the granulated sugar, the light brown sugar, vinegar.


Also 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon, the nutmeg, vanilla, and salt and stir to combine.


Cook, stirring ocassionally, until caramelized, about 20 minutes.


Remove from the heat and let cool.


In a small saucepan, melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.


Set aside in a warm place.


Lay 1 sheet of the phyllo vertically on a clean,dry surface, keeping the remaining sheets covered with a towel until ready to use.


They will quickly become dry and brittle if left uncovered.


Brush the first sheet of phyllo with a thin layer of warm melted butter, then top with a second sheet of phyllo.


Brush it with a thin layer of melted butter and top with a third sheet of phyllo.


Repeat until you have stacked and buttered all the phyllo sheets.


Place the cooled apples with about 1/3 cup, of the juices from the pan across the bottom third of the phyllo stack.


Start to roll until you form a log.


Transfer to the prepared baking sheet, seam-side down, then brush with melted butter.


Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.


. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.


Slice crosswise into rounds and serve with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
