BAKER'S One Bowl Chocolate Cake

This recipe is from the makers of Baker's Chocolate. It's really easy and tastes great!

CATEGORIES

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 squares Baker's semi-sweet baking chocolate
  • 3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2-1/2 cups flour, divided
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1-1/2 cups water

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350F.

Microwave chocolate and butter in a large microwaveable bowl on high 2 minutes or until butter is melted.

Stir until chocolate is completely melted.

Stir in sugar.

Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating with electric mixer on low speed after each addition until well blended.

Add vanilla; mix well.

Add 1/2 cup of the flour, the baking soda and salt; beat until well blended.

Add remaining 2 cups flour alternately with water, beating until well blended after each addition.

Pour evenly into 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.

Bake 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean.

Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove from pans.

Cool completely on wire racks.

Spread with frosting. (I make the Baker's One-Bowl Chocolate Frosting recipe I've also posted.)

This recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of flour divided, but in the instructions, it says to first add 1/2 cup, then the remaining 2 cups. This does not make any sense! Was it supposed to read 2 1/2 cups of flour, divided in the list of ingredients (that way you could add the remaining 2 cups), OR is 1 1/2 cups the correct amount of flour, and you add the remaining cup at the end????

Michelle, I know you said you make this cake often. It sounds very sweet, considering that it calls for 1 1/2 cups of sugar in addition to SEMI-Sweet chocolate (as opposed to regular unsweetened baking chocolate). Also, when you add the water, is it boiling water, hot water, room temperature water, or cold water? Jim

I am a professional and get paid to make cakes and I tried this as something new. It came out so flat and disgusting like it baked in place. I know how to follow a recipe and this is one of the worst I have ever tried. should have stuck with my old recipe. I can't trust this site at all now.

mhamilton11 there is a kinder way to post a review about a recipe. I just felt the need to say that your review was over-kill on the rude side. Michelle: GREAT cake!
