BAKED STUFFED FRENCH TOAST

Ingredients

  • 8 eggs
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-2 loaves day old French bread cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 3 cups milk
  • Butter
  • Cinnamon
  • Confectioner's sugar
  • Filling:
  • 8 oz. softened cream cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup walnuts (optional)

Directions

  • Grease a 9 x 13 glass baking dish generously with butter.
  • Beat eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla in one bowl.
  • Mix cream cheese, vanilla and nuts in another bowl.
  • Spread cream cheese mix onto bread and make sandwiches.
  • Place sandwiches into the pan very tightly.
  • Pour egg mixture over the bread.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon and dot each sandwich with a little pat of butter.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until middle is set.
  • Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
  • Serve with warm syrup.

Notes

A variation on my Grandmother's recipe, this is fun, easy and filling.
