Bar B Que Brisket
4 pounds beef brisket
1¼ cups water, divided
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees.
2. Place brisket in a large Dutch oven; add ½ cup water. Cover and bake for 2 hours.
3. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, sauté onion and garlic in oil until tender. Add all other ingredients,
except liquid smoke, plus the remaining ¾ cup water; simmer, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring
occasionally. Add liquid smoke to saucepan and mix well.
4. Drain drippings from Dutch oven and pour barbecue sauce over meat. Cover and bake 1 to 2 hours
longer or until meat is tender
